I mean they signed 5 of the best defensive players in the state. They are young, but we're getting the right guys

We brought in a few serviceable corners, no studs

You can expect mediocre DB play this year. Don’t let the rose colored glasses of the offseason fool you regarding the DL or DBs on campus

So now you are complaining that people who don’t complain before the season starts, will complain if the secondary doesn’t improve?

You’re an interesting person.

There was one or two plays like that, but most of the time Devonta had two steps on Stingley.

Lol your not wrong smith rlly gave young stingley a welcome to the SEC experience that game. His releases and route running completely neutralized stingley's athleticism. I do remember one double move stingley stuck to smith like glue but smith still came down with an impressive catch after tua threw a dime.

I think the problem with defense is that we have to reboot. And particularly in the secondary, I mean reboot.

Basically, the scheme needs to be simple. You need it as easy as can be, so you can recruit a good high school guy to come in, and he can step in and play full speed.
And then the next year, you make the defense more complex, so that guy can play it, and probably beat out a slightly better incoming freshman, who doesn't quite grasp the defense as well. And keep incrementally increasing it until your NFL prospects, the 3-and-done crowd, are running a pretty complex system, with the younger guys ready to take over next season.

Our problem is we've relied on one-and-done portal guys. You can't make it complex or they're lost (see: last season), and you can't make it more complex the next year because you're bringing in more portal guys. That has to stop or we do this every year.

I would agree that he isn’t coating anything with those remarks. Hopefully, the “journey” for these guys will consist of early survival and demonstrable improvement week to week.

I just want this coach and team to win the first game of the year.

Everybody worried about db but Scarborough said the pass rush has been non existent thus far in camp

We could have 2 1st round corners but it won’t mean shite if the qb has 5 seconds to throw the ball

Said he hasn’t seen anything from Womack

I think we've got some young guys with skill, but that takes some time to develop. We just have to get through the early part of the season to give them time to grow.

Plus, it should help a bit if we are being aggressive on defense. If we are sending Perkins and Burns on speed rushes every other pass, the DBs aren't going to have to cover forever. Plus a nervous, rushed QB often makes some bad decisions. We are going to get burned from time to time, but hopefully we get some turnovers. That's a lot better than last year when we just got burned all the time. And if our offense is humming, a couple turnovers is all we need.

You know as much fun as it was to watch Daniels put the ball in the end zone every 90 seconds, that had to put a lot of stress on the defense. Hopefully our run game can be more dominant (with Jackson behind our awesome OL) that we can do some grinding and still keep notching TD's. Then our defense stays fresh, and we get to keep our best starters out there.

You do know you can go 1 on 1 without pads right?

Seems like an accurate way to judge a pass rush

Don’t they rate kids at camps without pads?

If you aren’t winning a pass rush rep without pads what makes you think they’ll win one in pads?

He’s goin against two potential first round picks at OT, if we were getting 1on1 pass rush pressure I’d be worried

Is it that you just don’t want it to be true, or you actually disagree?
