Lining him up over the tackle with Jefferson at nose and Wingo the other DT just makes too much sense

Saivion hasn’t been great this year

I think we are gonna see a few more snaps with three DL (Smith, Jefferson, Wingo) with Perkins playing OLB and the secondary playing with a true nickel back. I think would prefer this instead of Perkins playing nickel.

All of the switching from 3-4 to 4-3 to 3-4 over the last 4 years has really fricked up our front seven. Our guys have been switched back and forth so much they aren’t good at either technique. It’s also fricked up how we recruit the front seven, so we have a weird mix of personnel for both systems. For example Savion Jones is a 4-3 DE that they tried to bulk up to a 3-4 DE. It hasn’t worked unfortunately.

Why do we even use an antiquated 3-4?

3-4 actually the more versatile defense considering it’s way easier to disguise your blitzes and your coverages, but you have to be flexible in today’s game.

3-4 is anything but antiquated. It’s extremely versatile and because Perkins is kind of position less it gives flexibility and keeps him around the line more than in coverage.
Just FYI Georgia’s base is 3-4 and they are sort of good at defense

That is not what he said at all! He said he was playing the 3 and 5 technique his freshman year, but now he is playing nose and "doing a lot of the dirty work"...go back and listen again

Classic gold is correct. Our defensive players have endured multiple sets because of various coaching philosophies. Hopefully the team will get on the same page and settle in on what we need to win with Coach House’s preference’s. Our coaches need to be smart enough to adapt to the current personnel on hand to succeed with what we have.

It won’t matter. He’s out of shape and has no motor. Don’t expect much. Jefferson needs his snaps. Womack needs more as well. I’d rather out guys on the field who produce rather than coddle hype and underachievement.

He didn’t say that. He said he’s playing more 2 technique now than he did as freshman where he played 3 & 5. He said he’s doing his job freeing up the linebackers and that they maybe need to be more creative as the season plays out on how they use him.

Based on starting last season as the starting DT in this defense I was thinking he would be playing mostly between 2 to 4 techniques (including 2i, 3, & 4i), so it was strange to see him playing and starting at NT.

Besides last season’s listed position it also seems like with legs still regaining playing shape after knee surgery, being taller, and being new to playing NT that his ability to play NT with a lot of leverage would be limited at least early on.

If best inside linemen aren’t true NTs than why force it versus adjusting front and defense for talent?
