He will get what he signed up for. Guaranteed $$$. There should actually be a disclaimer with these stupidity ridiculous contracts…”YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO WIN A SINGLE GAME TO COLLECT YOUR PRIZE.” You would be fired but you still collect.

If he plans on coaching again he is leaving money on the table by not taking a lump sum. If he isn’t planning on coaching there’s no need to negotiate. Simple as that.
He will push to get the largest lump sum he can before showing his cards on whether he wants to coach. This negotiation is not news worthy

Agree. A $30MM lump sum payment from LSU is extremely generous of LSU. If he rejects it I would call into question his upholding his duty to seek employment elsewhere. Let’s see if he wants to get in that fight.

$30 million after tax is $18 million....

If anyone on this forum signed a contract for that much money and was fired, would you take a pay cut or want the full balance remaining? I am not budging and want my full balance to be paid.
BK should get his full amount owed to him. It is on LSU. Unless they have the proof to show cause in his firing to negate the buyout, they need to provide it. No one in their right mind is giving up $20+ million. Not happening.

Why is Kelly the one being a jerk? The reason we have contracts is so that someone will have to keep an agreement.
A contract generally requires BOTH parties to deliver, not just one.

Maybe if LSU wasn’t leaking every other email he would have accepted one of the offers by now. LSU isn’t doing itself any favors dragging this into the public eye.

Both parties signed a binding contract. Poor performance on Kelly’s part was not an out for us.

I still don’t understand how his lack of involvement and shite performance doesn’t qualify as “cause” for termination.

They clearly lined up to pay it already.
You’d of thought these rich guys would’ve been smarter about writing then approving a contract on this scale. Signed of on, they’re on there own

There’s no performance requirements. He’s contractually owed his money whether he wins or loses every game. Obviously he wasn’t doing anything unethically to invoke termination for cause, so here we are.
LSU knew what it was contractually obligated to do when it gave Kelly the contract. Pretty simple. If he doesn’t want a settlement, then he’s owed his money whether anyone likes it or not.

Not always, its one of the ways attorney's make money is litigating contracts. Judges often rule against one side or the other regarding contracts.
This is Louisiana and nothing is ever what it seems or appears in our judicial system

LSU isn’t leaking anything. The emails come from Freedom of Information Act requests….. some of y’all need to really look into the “offset” language in his contract. If he signs with another school for “x” amount…..it’s deducted from the buyout owed. Untill he settles on a lump sum…. LSU will just pay monthly as the contract states…. This isn’t new, nor is it really hard to understand
