This is why running the ball is going to be so important. Call me a chicken little if you want but the closer this game gets, the more I worry.

My biggest worry is Sage Ryan matching up with their speedy WRs in man coverage

Ryan’s issue has never been speed or the ability to cover.

He just hasn’t been able to play the ball the air. He’s often right on the WR just can’t finish the play.

Can Brian Kelly get a team ready to play in an opening game?

That Vegas just hosted a superbowl, numerous big-time events and conventions over the years and is underestimating this crowd traveling in from the east.

Baker is not going to have his defense sitting in read and react like House did, he will put pressue on the QB with his blitzs, this will help our secondary tremendously...

Sage Ryan & Major Burns until they prove otherwise

Would likely fit the STAR position pretty well but you unfortunately need him at corner

I think Major Burns fits that way better, If not perfectly. STAR needs to be a hybrid LB/S with size so they can cover Tight Ends. Sage is too small.

You can run whatever you want in underwear. He doesn't play football in pads at a 4.4 clip.

Very few do. He plays in pads like a guy who runs a 4.4 in underwear. This is the way every 4.4 guy becomes a 4.4 guy.

I've watched him play football for a long time. He played varsity as an 8th grader on a team my son was a senior on. He ran away from people then. He had a hamstring injury that impacted him in his freshman season at LSU and has tweaked it multiple times since. That is why I say speed is not his issue IF he is 100%.

I have also heard Coach Kelly mention his elite speed multiple times over the last couple of years. This is not something people are making up.

Oh you could have led with the fact that you had a rooting interest in the kid. Look I like him, I think he brings experience and IQ to the defense but he has never once looked explosive or fast on a college football field. Hopefully Blake Baker is able to get that out of him and I am rooting for him to have a great year but how he looked as an 8th grader doesn't really mean much.

I have stated that multiple times over the last few years. I forget to say it every time. I cannot deny that it may color my opinion.

We disagree on this. At least the fast part. But he has never been the fastest guy on the defense at LSU. And I do think some of the issues for him have been not being 100% and a sort of paralysis by analysis that seemed to sink the defense in the mud last season.

It does not. That was me saying he has always looked fast when I have watched him. He looks less fast now than he did in HS relative to other players but that is not something that is limited to Sage.

If there's one thing I can put 100% of my blind trust in, it's BK fielding superb offensive lines. He may and has fricked up in other areas, but we're not fielding anything less than a top 3 OL at minimum with these studs.

I agree with this. Sage has too much weight on his 5’10” frame. That’s why he always looks stiff. He needs to quit trying to play at safety weight. If he would commit to dropping down to 185lbs he could try to make an NFL roster as a nickel corner.

First few defensive drives of the game. If they get a couple stops it could do wonders for this confidence. If not there will be an awful lot of “here we go again”.
