The smirk on the pitchers face was hard to watch. I wonder how it looked at the end of the game.

Was the ball below his knee when it crossed the plate? I think below, but it’s close.

Really hard to tell bc of the white pants if it’s above or below. Looks right at his front kneecap imo.

I still think the angle is a little deceiving though and I could see where it’s possible it was low. Just going off the slow mo of this angle, it doesn’t look as egregious as the behind the pitcher angle

surprisingly doesn’t look as bad as I though it would.
Yep, only 4 inches higher and it would have been a strike!

That’s a strike all day.

The catcher didn’t even try to frame it. That’s all you need to know there.

Was gonna post the same response. Everyone knew that was a ball

I would have liked to have seen the MLB computer image of the square and where the ball crossed. I bet it was at least 4-6 inches out of the strike zone. Hey, that's not an easy job being an umpire, but that was a really bad call.

This was the closest freeze I could get of crossing plate. It’s already a few inches over plate at this point, but not much judging from this angle. It was a bad call.

You have zero clue about angles. That camera is past first base. It’s not perpendicular to the hitter at all. Idiots.

Keep in mind Arambide has “loaded” for the swing at this point meaning his knees are probably 1-2 inches lower than full stance.

I mean, we can’t know for certain from this angle, but the ball appears to be middle of the plate to 2/3’s back. It’s definitely still over the plate.

It was the delay in calling strike that pissed CJJ off.

That's part of it. The delayed call was the ump thinking "I've got that dinner date tonight and don't want to be late".

. I believe the ump called the two before that strikes and they were in the same spot.

It was actually lower than the two he called strikes. And those two were at best, questionable even with the umps low strike zone taken into consideration.

Cudos to the TN pitcher for continuing to locate that pitch knowing the ump was giving it to him, but that last one was blatant enough to be a ball at any level all day long. Imo, the pitcher grinning as Jay is getting tossed is him acknowledging his amazement the ump gave him that call.

The umps hesitation seems to me to be him thinking, well shite the first two were borderline...frick it...I am giving him this one too.

As for the ump, I will say for him, after this frick up, he was in perfect position to see Curiel miss the plate by an inch with his slide an inning later.

you know this isn't nearly as relevant as you're making it out to be.

I didn't realize the board had so many umpires. It was a terrible call. Deal with it.

Breaking ball. It drops down to the dirt after it crosses the plate. Looks like a strike. Yes, delayed call, but he did that off and on throughout the game.
Jay just trying to rally the troops.

I combined two images … the ball before the plate and after the plate.
