Their highest-graded returning players on offense are:
RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire – 84.5 overall grade
QB Joe Burrow – 79.5
OG Damien Lewis – 77.1
C Lloyd Cushenberry III – 77.1
WR Justin Jefferson – 76.4
WR Ja’Marr Chase – 69.4
TE Stephen Sullivan – 67.8
WR Dee Anderson – 66.9
OT Badara Traore – 65.5
OT Adrian Magee – 65.4

The highest-graded returning players on defense for LSU:
CB Kristian Fulton – 88.6
S Grant Delpit – 84.4
Edge Michael Divinity Jr – 81.1
DI Tyler Shelvin – 75.9
DI Neil Farrell Jr. – 74.0
LB Patrick Queen – 72.7
DI Rashard Lawrence – 72.1
CB Kary Vincent Jr. – 71.9
LB Jacoby Stevens – 70.8
DI Glen Logan – 68.7
To put Burrow's 79.5 in context, Tua was a 90.8, Clemson's Lawrence 90.7, Fromm 84.7, Mond 78.1, Franks 67.6.
Interesting facts:
-Divinity, Queen, and Stevens were all graded higher than Dylan Moses
-Fulton is graded higher than any CB from Bama, Clemson, or UGA
-Delpit is graded higher than any S from Bama and Clemson, but behind UGA's J.R. Reed

Pretty high praise for Clydro. Hoping he breaks out this year

Love Helaire and he will not be easy to beat out. Getting very little love here after a nice last season running and catching the football. Hes the forgotten offensive player this year, even Ingram is getting more press than Helaire.
Divinity really impressed last year especially rushing the passer. Im still a bit shocked that hes won the ILB position at LSU. The sky is the limit for this guy, a true baller.
Wonder what Burrow's score wouldve been had he not been running for his life most games.
Fulton is just a stud. He can flat out cover people and will make several huge plays this year.
FYI Kristian needs to find a better fitting uniform to go along with his immense talents at CB. He didnt look as athletic as the rest of the secondary last year but may have been the best CB on the team.

Jacob phillips is built like a god, but does anyone else get the impression that kind of above average, not great player?

You tend to look average lining up next to arguably the best linebacker in school history. He'll be all SEC this year, maybe all american.

If you watched him play you don't get that vibe at all

No, we sorely missed Philips in the UF game.

I get the opposite impression. Sound tackler, never missed assignments, and can bring the wood.
Guy is a stud that will start in the NFL one day.

CEH rated higher than Delpit!? Makes you question their formula.

I’m guessing one game was not enough to grade his season.

This seems a little high!

quote:JP was a big part of what let White be white last year. Offenses couldn't focus on White bc JP is a beast. No, Phillips in not just an above average player. He is much more sound on technique and fluid as a natural linebacker than Devin was.

You're kidding right?? So the top overall middle linebacker in his recruiting class that sat behind a host of draft picks his first year and broke out in his second to only trail White in tackles...this guy will be the leader of the defense and be the guy making the calls, and more than likely end up being yet another very high pick in next year's draft...in other words basically everyone with any sort of knowledge in scouting and projecting players and their future value has seen Phillips as an elite player at his position.
Yet somehow you only see an above average player? And I'm confused as to what you mean by that because he's been far more than an above average player at every single step in his development....This is why he is in the position he is in. Because he's quite a bit more than just some above average player.... Aranda's defense is run by an elite middle linebacker and that spot has been manned by high draft pick after high draft pick and none of them were just ok players...
