In fact, Perkins may be edge as you say, but in today’s football that’s as likely to be a LB as a DE.

Yeah, this seems more about the evolution of defensive schemes than a true position change.

Edge is an assignment or function for the most part. What is Ojalari? DE, LB, Edge? Nowadays DE's drop in coverage as well as LB's.

There is no position group for Edge...

Perkins situation is that he came in as a LB and they trained him on edge rushing to get him on the field. Now he is assuming more and more of the full duties of the LB role because he has practiced it enough now.

Must be the lightest DE in the nation Cmon Slow. A 220lb DE in D-1? He is a linebacker.

Spears was not DE all the way. Saban told him he could make more money at DE than TE, and he made the switch

This is like the legend that Spears could have played BBall at LSU, bro. He was never going to get to play TE at his height/weight.

If he did start out at TE, he'd have ended up an OL had he stayed on offense. He was way too big to be a TE.

Yeah so…he’s a linebacker

They haven’t changed his position. They are playing to his strengths as he learns to play LB. This isn’t even debated.

Lol okay.

I'll nominate moving Tyrann Mathieu from CB to nickel

Yet you’ve already declared a position change for HP40 that hasn’t happened yet.

Weird

Yes there are. They're edges.

There's "LB" (which means off ball LB or OLB) and edge (which, in Madden positions can be a DE or LB).

I think more accurately he was too good to keep off the field and edge is a lot simpler than LB, and we stumbled into a Micah Parsons situation (where we acquired an OLB who ended up being elite at edge while still having some LB versatility)

LB is a lot more complicated of a position. They held out hope in being able to sit/develop him at LB until the disaster that was Tennessee. After the reaction to not playing Perkins (our 2nd best edge and most explosive edge), they clearly had a come to Jesus meeting and gave up on playing him at LB and have just been unleashing him in a very simplified edge/spy role.

He was primarily a NB here, though

He played S and NB in the NFL, too, primarily. By far his most snaps were in those roles instead of CB

No. DE all the way. Similar to D White being a "running back"

marcus played both ways as a freshman
he played FB, TE and DE, had two catches

I mean our coaches can waste him by moving him back to LB, sure. I think we would all agree that would be insane.

Edge is MUCH more valuable than LB and we know he's an elite edge already.

Except he’s still a linebacker. Linebackers are used in all sorts of fun ways! I can link the official LSU roster if you like.

Uh, me and Les were the earliest on this pain train.

I've been posing about how amazing and impactful he's been at edge since before the Tenn game

They're playing him at edge/spy and that's about 95% of his snaps

Every now and again the offense forces action to his side and he has to go in coverage. Bama started off the game last week targeting this against him specifically.
