I know, 8 seasons is a good career but he was still productive so it seems like he could’ve stuck around. Kept bouncing from team to team during the season later in his career, maybe he got sick of that. 14.5ppg as a rookie, 18.7ppg his third season and 16.8ppg as a starter for his career.

Henderson shot in the mid 50s from 2 on 11attempts per game during his back to back scoring champ seasons so he did attack the rim and mid range more than we tend to remember but I agree Cam has a bigger arsenal around the rim. Henderson was a leaper at the rim and hit a lot of 15-18 footers. Cam, like you said has the floater and can create space inside that 15 foot range ala Jamie Brandon.

No Pistol didn't. Freshmen couldn't play back then.

I've been very impressed with him so far. I know he was a 5-start but he actually exceeded my expectations because I've see a few 5-stars here (Lester Earl and Regis Kounja to name two) who were not, so I always start of a bit skeptical. This kid is the real deal.

He was hailed as maybe the best pure scorer in the 2020 class. Wade would do interviews where he'd say it was almost a shock anytime he missed a shot in practice because they ALL looked like they were going in and he missed so few. I knew he would be a good player, but I was hesitant to completely buy into that level of hype.

Three games in he looks to be meeting those expectations. Now, the competition will get tougher and the focus of opponents will shift to him even more now that he is starting to prove himself to be a big time scoring threat so I think it is a BIT early to start ranking him among some of the best Freshman LSU has ever had. Hell, after three games...and only three games, I would "rank" him behind Waters. And that's just in the Wade era. But it is exciting to seemingly have a guy that night in and night out looks like he can fill it up regardless of opponent.

off subject, but Andy Campbell was terrible. Dewayne Scales played like an idiot his last game. Eddie Palubinskas was fun to watch. Pete is the only answer.

CJ35 was by far the best freshman.

Pete may have been great as a freshman if he was allowed to play varsity ball as a freshman.

None of the others are even close.

I hope Cam Thomas has a fantastic season and becomes a shooter we are talking about 25 years from now.

Chris Jackson is the only LSU player I've ever seen that when the ball left his hands from anywhere on the court, I said, "Yeah, that's probably going in".

It was a pleasure watching him play.

Then you never had the pleasure of seeing Pete play at John Parker Coliseum as a freshman. Nobody EVER will again.

Pistol had the best freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior year of ANY collegiate basketball athlete. And that is without the 3-point shot.

Everyone is going for second place.

I’ll start comparing Cam Thomas to Chris Jackson if he scores 53 in his 1st SEC game.

And averages 29/30 points per game for the season!!!

This is not a knock on Redden, he was my fathers favorite player alltime at LSU behind The Pistol and one of my first Tiger hero’s but Don Reddens freshman season average was 7.1ppg in just 8 games then 10.1 his soph year with a full slate of games. Kenny Higgs 18.1ppg, Henderson 15.9ppg, Blakeney 12.6ppg, Ralston Turner 12.3ppg, Mo Williamson 12.2ppg, Javonte Smart 11.1ppg, Jamie Brandon 10.4ppg, Antonio Hudson 10.3ppg, Mo Carter 9.8ppg all had bigger freshman seasons. And now we have Cam Thomas at 24.3ppg, nobody knows if he can keep this pace up all season long but Cam is without a doubt one of the top freshman 2 guard scorers LSU has ever had so far.

Hit the Pause button and let the KID play live fire SEC games before anointing him on a list with Jackson and Maravich. For his sake not the others.

It’s nice to have a guy breakout like this and show great promise but you’re right fans will start shelling him if he doesn’t maintain a certain standard. Just a couple years ago Naz started with games of 17 then 29 but was bashed unfairly as the season went on. The guy hit a bunch of clutch shots to win games and was one of our most productive freshman bigs recently but people were all over him here.
