he has great stats but he hasn't been clutch. Call me crazy all you want but he has made some crucial turnovers late in games and misses crucial free throws all the time.

Oh then I guess he wont be picked #1 then

That has to do with future potential and not current talent and greatness which this thread is about

I think the best player in the country should have helped us win at least 3-4 of those games. We lost to some bad teams early.

You'd think, but Durant lost 10 games with DJ Augustin and AJ Abrams the whole season.

shite that UT team had 5 guys on that team that would eventually play in the league.

So yeah, he cant do it all on his own.

I'm sure The Pistol's Freshman stats would stand out--if they could count in NCAA stats.

He should definitely be better from the line considering the hype. No doubt about it though he's an exceptional talent, but sometimes it seems like he's just going through the motions just waiting on the draft. He doesn't rally his teammates nor does he coach on the floor for someone with such a high basketball I.Q.

they played a much tougher schedule than LSU. 2 losses to KU (#2 & # 3 when they lost). I looked at who they lost to and all of the teams with the exception of USC are known basketball powers. No bad losses. they even beat LSU who was #9.

against the teams we lost to I think he should have enabled us to win a few more games...its not like we lost to ranked teams.

As great as he is he disappears in the end of games.

I think he gets tired towards the end of the game. Its probably from handling the ball too much. I think the staff needs to let him play more without the ball to save his energy.

He went 2 for 7 at the free throw line!! If we are going to win games our best player may want to start making all of his free throws. No excuse to be rated #1 yet you can't make more than half of your free throws, no excuse. Can't blame that on Tim Quarterman, Josh Gray, or Coach Johnny Jones. It's only on Ben, and for him to say he's the best in the country after that performance and after that Oklahoma game is a head scratcher.
Make your free throws!

Stats don't mean shite if you don't have the want and drive to have the ball in your hands when your team needs you most. Every sports commentator in the country sees this except blind lsu fans

LSU fans see this too but that does not take away from him being the best basketball player in the country. He might not be the best winner or most clutch but overall basketball skills he is the best.

Dick Vitale (who I don't love) blows players and coaches as much as any commentator I've seen, but he absolutely BLASTED Simmons during the Oklahoma game. Begging him to be more assertive and take over. Musburger too.

That should tell you something.

They did play a much tougher schedule but they also had a much better team.

Say what you want about his intangibles since that is pure opinion, but his stats are undeniable.

They say it all the time, the last player to avg 20/10 in the SEC was Shaq. Pick any top scorer in recent history and Ben beats them in every other category. Find me another freshman that had 20/10/5.

Right now he is top 5 in the SEC in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals, fg%, double doubles, FTA, FTM, FGM.

And top 5 in the country in a handful of those as well.

He has great stats. I think if he was more assertive they would be even better.

Dont disagree. And if rumors are correct it doesnt help that him an TQ are apparently not seeing eye to eye. Which may explain that garbage last night.

But for anyone to come in here and dog on him saying he isnt the best basketball player in the country is asinine.

i like what greenberg said on first take, basically that ben makes everyone around him better BUT, other than hornsby, who else on the team makes BEN better?

hornsby is the only one consistently looking for ben in the post or looking to repost him, patterson and blakeney are usually spotted up, with quarterman trying to go 1v5 at the top of the arc.

TQ had one of the worst games i can ever remember watching last night. i know it's got to be tough for him balancing the act of trying to distribute AND be the aggressor when things aren't going our way, but if he could just help ben a quarter of the amount ben helps the rest of the team then its a huge difference

LOL, no. Greatness finds ways to win and makes those around him better and not shy away when your team needs you most.

Thanks for your armchair definition of "greatness"

let me guess, were you an awesome high school player but the coaches hated you and that's why you never got that scholly to Louisiana College?

I don't know how he doesn't get yanked. He has been a liability at so many different points during this season. His up side does not make up for it either.

Quarterman is pretty good from the line and shoots a decent percentage from 3 land, but his defense sucks, his court awareness sucks, he's lazy, and his court vision is on par with a 12 year old in a pick up game at the park.

bro

Rest of the people in this thread are delusional. Ben is the best LSU player since Shaq and people are talking shite.
