Andy Katz interviewed Ben after the game.

He asked Ben who he would pick for player of the year.

"Oh myself, I'm not going to pick anybody over me but there's a lot of great players out there," Simmons said after dropping 20 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists in LSU's 94-83 loss to South Carolina.

"I don't think anyone is better than me."

Asked what it would mean to miss the Big Dance, Simmons said, "It would be annoying, frustrating, upsetting for me and my teammates. ...I'm not happy if we lose so we'll see what happens."

I agree. Ben has been everything he was billed up to be and MORE. We are watching one of the greatest freshman in the history of college basketball.

Lets hope Ben carries this attitude into the next few games and asserts himself as the best player in the NCAA.

LOL, no. Greatness finds ways to win and makes those around him better and not shy away when your team needs you most. He's lacking the chest and the want hopefully he finds it sometime soon but looking doubtful

I don't think his performance warrants that statement. The hype is more about his potential than current level of play. I think there have been plenty of freshmen with better years and didn't have the hype of being the best player in cbb.

To be fair, ben isnt a volume scorer. And Chris' A/TO ratio is essentially 1:1.

Show me the last time a freshman had anything remotely close to bens full stat line.

Yeah I saw the interview last night. After it was over, the guy on ESPN, can't remember who it was shouted "then start playing like it"

Chris Jackson's team didn't miss the NCAA tournament, so Bennie needs to hit that mark first to be considered.

Before you throw out supporting cast, LSU's talent in 1989 was pretty low opposite of CJ other than Ricky Blanton.

Great scorer and has Ben by 6 ppg. Ben beats him in every other statistical category. Rebounds, assists, steals, etc.

That Texas team lost 10 games and didn't make it to the sweet 16. Not like they were an absolute juggernaut. Not taking anything away from Durant, he was awesome, just like Benny is now.

Stats don't mean shite if you don't have the want and drive to have the ball in your hands when your team needs you most. Every sports commentator in the country sees this except blind lsu fans

seasons are comparable though.

I love ben. Maybe my expectations were too high. I hear that this team lost 6 games b/c victor and Hornsby weren't playing. I think the best player in the country should have helped us win at least 3-4 of those games. We lost to some bad teams early.
