with the hype coming in and the way LSU is promoting him for this upcoming season it seems the expectations are high. A lot of people believe he is a 1 and done player for LSU and is good enough to lead LSU past the 1st round of the Tournament.

If Simmons plays well but not the All-American type level (say All-SEC 1st team) and LSU again doesn't get past the 1st round, will people view him as a player who didn't live up to the hype? May mean LSU gets him for 2 years as well, which could be great.

I have a hard time believing he won't play to AA level. He's just really good.

If he isnt an AA I would consider it a huge letdown. He should be in contention for player of the year based on what the pundits are saying. He is one of the best prospects in a few years

If he isn't a 1st AA as a freshman, I don't think that's the mark he has to hit in order to not be a bust. I think it's very fair to say he has to be a AA on some level.

If he doesn't make 1st All SEC, then yes, that would be a major disappointment. There are top 5 recruits every year that can take a bit to adapt, and I don't think that expectation is completely fair to place on an 18 year player.

I will be disappointed if he doesn't play at an all American level. This is not like Fournette and football. The time is now for Simmons.

He may or may not but you all should expect some numbers for the year around 13 to 19 points a game and 6 to 7 rebounds and 2 to 3 assist. He has lot of skill but he on the wing and not a big man, smaller players with make him uncomfortable at times away from the basket.

I mean he is already being projected as the number 1-3 pick in the draft. I dont know how anyone can say they wouldnt be somewhat disappointed if he isnt AA. I mean I wont hate the guy but it will be a letdown

I never say never, but I can't really think of any type of situation that will make him stay 2 years.

I honestly believe he'll have multiple triple doubles. His assist numbers will likely be the highest on the team. All this assuming he has no injuries. That Randy Livingston injury back in the day, man did that change an elite player

John Williams was the number one player in the country coming out of High School (McDonald's All-American game MVP), and never made AA at LSU. He was still drafted 12th in '86, despite not being AA. He, like Simmons, often looked to pass first and score second, so his skills often weren't reflected in the stats line.

He'll handle the ball more than just a little. He's going to be taking the Lebron role where he brings the ball down the court. Those smaller players won't be able to defend him at 6'10, so I hope we get that matchup

Also, your post was painful to read

I think he should at least be as good at LSU as Okafor was a Duke for example. I think these top rated players should all produce about the same.

That would be a great season. Switching your rebound and assist numbers would be realistic.

Yep. It's really hard to get 10 assists in college.

Seems a lot of people are pumping this kid up, I hope he rises above the hype and performs at some Nintendo level numbers, but if he doesn't he should still be a quality player.

For some reason when I try to use the quote button on iPhone safari crashes.

To the guy that said he will average 2-3 assists per game, I would be shocked if he averaged that few assists. I imagine the ball will go through his hands on the vast majority of possessions and he is known to penetrate and make plays then find the open player as he is a pass first type player. I see him averaging at least 5 assists per game.

Wasn't the same thing said about Jerell Martin?

No, they weren't close to the same prospects.

Hell, Simmons has 2 inches on margin despite his guard like play
