2 Ks is the fewest strikeouts Jones has had of any SEC series this season (was averaging close to 5 Ks per series, prior to South Carolina).

Jones in this series: .400 BA, 5 RBI, 3 HR.

And there were 10 threads started with each strike out wanting him moved down in the order.

Hate to be negative on a positive post but maybe he can do something other than bully the little sisters of the poor come postseason play. He hits 700 foot bombs every time he faces pitchers that shouldn’t be facing SEC competition then disappears against elite guys and that’s been a major trend for him all season

Are we gonna act like this was sec pitching? I bet he had a good series at Missouri too. Downvote away. Not against him we need him...bit let's see him do it fairly consistently against good sec pitching.

And that’s a fine sentiment to have, but didn’t he have a pretty good regional last year or am I misremembering? Those were pretty good pitchers we were facing very comparable to what we will face. He was 7 for 13 in the regional. It’s not like he’s never hit good pitching before.
Regional stats:
.538 BA
.739 OBP

That's great and all that he had a good regional. We are talking about this year and if being honest he has struggled big against the upper sec pitching...to the point of almost an automatic out. He is very capable....so here is hoping he will have a great trny.

All I’m saying is people say he struggles everytime he faces good pitching which is not true. Not claiming he’s had a tremendous season. I’m claiming that the narrative that he can’t hit good pitching is 100% false. Heck one of his worst series of the season (probably the worst) was Auburn who does not have great pitching at all lol.

I wonder if the rating services that have him the #1 rated First Baseman have considered this very pertinent information?

It’s almost like good hitters don’t do as well against really good pitchers.

We’ve seen a lot of our top hitters hit slumps all season or struggle against good pitching

Like when he hit that walk off home run against Tennessee? Or when he got the hit that scored the game winning run against Arkansas?

Most hitters do. That’s why those upper SEC pitchers are first round draft picks

The college baseball season is too short to have a slump but they happen in baseball, to everyone. If they happen during a college season, the season stats are going to look bad. But he torched good pitching last year. It’s not like he’s worse hitting the baseball now.

That poster is a habitual cry baby. Cry about one thing, get proven wrong, move the bar to cry about something else.

Rantard - Jones can't hit.

- Jones demolishes SC this weekend.

Rantard - Yeah but Jones doesn't hit when we need him to most.

- Jones dominated the regional last season.

Rantard - yeah but that was last year. I'm talking about this season.

- Jones walked off Tennessee and Arkansas.

Rantard - Yeah but he struck out some other at bats.

Jones had a HR that took around an hour to land vs one of UT’s top closers that helped us win that series. Jones also had one of the key hits in our 1 AM rally to beat Arkansas. Those two wins that helped seal those two series are key reasons we will land a Top 8 seed. Dismissing those is just fricking stupid considering the impact on our season.

Saying he’s an “automatic out” vs SEC teams is just asinine. Would it be great if he was doing better vs SEC starters- yes. Even admitting that, this statement still a gross exaggeration. But that’s what you do, so…

One series against a bottom 5 SEC school doesn't make those threads inaccurate. Bear has objectively struggled against top competition all season while Frey, Brown, Curiel (until recently) and Dickinson have all been more consistently productive. Seeing Bear hit between 3 and 5 instead of 2 makes perfect sense.

Exactly! All of the elite SEC hitters have struggled against Eyanson and Anderson, too.
