Be honest: how many of you were previously opposed to claiming the 1908 championship?

This is not a "gotcha" thread, nor am I calling anybody out. I just remember that up until winning the CFP, any mention of claiming the 1908 championship was met with a shower of downvotes and negative responses, mostly along the lines of not wanting to claim titles like Bama (understandably). But since blasting Clemson and completing the greatest season in the history of college football, everybody seems excited to finally claim that championship. It's crazy how one season can change not just the national perspective of a program, but even a fanbase's perception of their team. Obviously it's easier to claim a past championship after winning one than it is when you haven't won one since '07 and have been on a negative spiral up until O righted the ship. Have a blessed evening!

Ok, I actually had no clue there was even a debate regarding claiming the 1908 championship.

I didn’t know any fans opposed it.

I always thought we should claim it. 1908 Tigers were legit.

Look at all the fricks I don’t give about 1908.

I just want the 1908 Championship T-Shirt.

I wasn’t even aware that we had a claim at 1908 until last week lol. Idk why anyone would be opposed, the ncaa recognizes it and we were undefeated

I have always said we had a legitimate claim to it. I have been posting that opinion on here for years.

Anyone opposed to claiming that Title is not a true LSU Tiger Fan. Period.
It is recognized by the NCAA that was founded in 1906. Period.
My grandfather Ryan played on that team that was the greatest team in college football from 1869 to arguably the 1924 Notre Dame Team coached by Knute Rockne.
The great Doc Fenton was the Geauxt of his era and those who saw Fenton and Thorpe play NEVER said Thorpe was better.
That team went a perfect 10-0 scoring 442 points (44.2 ppg) when TDs were worth 5 points.
Opposing teams scored only 11 points.
The Defense allowed 1 TD all season. (5 pts)
The offense gave up 3 Safeties (6 pts)
The 43 point margin of victory has never been beaten in the history of college Football
The hated Green Wave started unfounded rumors of professionalism that were picked up by Grantland Rice, then later discredited by the NCAA itself.
My grandfather’s gear and other souvenirs of that great team can be seen when visiting the Andonie Museum at LSU.
This post is akin to a year 2100 post that would belittle the achievements of Joe Burrow
Gone but not forgotten the 1908 National Champion LSU Tigers

Ok I'll be honest...I don't recall any of this on here in regards to 1908. Every Tiger fan I know IRL thinks we should've claimed it long ago.

From time to time it has come up. Invariably, some blowhard spouts off “don’t be like Alabama, we’re better than that blah blah blah ” and questioning the Tiger fanhood of anyone who felt it should be claimed.
I’m 100% for it.

Been saying this for years!!!

The truth of all this is NOBODY truly cares about the 1908 championship, outside of the guys and family that played on it. If the architecture wouldn't have worked the way it did. It wouldn't have mattered to Woodward and the school either.
It doesn't change one thing in the grand scheme of things and hurts no one.
I think overall it is awesome. Anyone acting like it's a big deal or petty is overreaction at its finest
Its a cool thing the school is adding and will look cool on t shirts

If the title is legitimate and recognized by the NCAA officially, LSU should claim it. 5 national titles ties Nebraska and Miami. I’d claim it
Posted on 5/20/20 at 7:37 pm to PrimetimeDaBoss
The NCAA says we won it back then so why would we not recognize it?

I’m guessing there should be an announcement soon after the plaque is finished outside Tiger Stadium?
