Back in the 80s, there was some big spaz white dude for one of the SEC teams. Every time he got the ball anywhere on the court the student section would yell "shoot!" We were kicking their arse, so one time he shot the ball and made nothing but net, and then he ran across the court giving the student section the finger. Then he got rung up for the T.

Help me out: who was he?

(I know this for sure--It wasn't Dwayne Schintzius)

Oh, I remember that. Man, that was funny shite. What about Howard Carter saying on the news "Coach says I'm the Money Man!"

Anyone remember in the early 1980's when the mascot "Mike" would come down out of the top of the overhead scoreboard before the UK home game ?

was anyone else there during Mardi Gras weekend in 1982 when our own clock operator (and the refs) vs Tennessee ?

Dale staying up all night during the 1987 SEC tourney.

First of all, In the Georgetown game, the runt he was talking about was Russell Grant. He took the shot with about 3 seconds left, but Mourning tipped the shot and Blanton got the ball after the blocked tipped shot and layed it in at the buzzer to beat the Hoyas. And the guy from Gtown that was bitching about all the hype Jackson was getting was Charles Smith, their skinny point guard whom Jackson outplayed. But that was a great win. Also some other memorable moments or games were Howard Carter's last second shot on the road to beat Georgia in 1981 with Wilkins and Hoard and Vern Fleming in his face. Also the regional semi's and final's in the Dome in 81 against Arkansas and U S Reed (payback from Great Alaskan Shootout earlier in the year) and Wichita St. heading in to Philly. Derrick Taylor's halfcourt shot to beat Auburn and a breadtruck freshman Charles Barkley. Also 1986 regional in the Pmac dbl ot win against Purdue, the incredible win against Memphis St. Then beating Georgia Tech and Kentucky in the 4th meeting of the year in Atlanta to go to Final 4 in Dallas. More later!

Man when Mike came down from the roof you KNEW it was a bigtime game!!!

Yes it was Russell Grant. I seem to remember him hitting a big shot one game but I am old and have burned many many brain cells.

I think all these memories show that LSU basketball can be a consistent national type team with the right coach. Hopefully the fans will start coming around with TJ at the helm.

For the guy who brought up Geerk.... that team was awful yet Dandy Dale got everything he could out of that team, make the tourney- one of Dale's best coaching jobs

The runts name was Ricky Blanton. Put back on a Chris Jackson miss when time ran out. I believe he had to guard either Mourning or maybe Ewing.

Mourning. And it was a horrible Russell Grant miss I believe.

My LSU student memories are of Pete Maravich
and the gang from Aliquippa, PA. Anyone remember
little Rich Lupcho? I dated him a few years
later for a few months. Nice guy.

I remember flying to Philly in 81 and *Mike*
the mascot was on our plane. His tiger head
was in the overhead bin. We sang LSU songs
and did cheers almost the entire trip up.

I always enjoyed the last home game and the
creative ways they introduced the seniors.

Also, Press Maravich got really ticked at
the cheerleaders because they had no interest
in coming to the games because we weren't very
good. All of a sudden when the country started
paying attention to a young kid named Pete who
never washed his socks, the cheerleaders showed
up. Press said no thanks and got his own basketball cheerleaders.

Great memories.

Kyle Mckenzie was a good friend

Mike Hansen also.

By the way, Russell Grant was no runt...he was a freak, his nickname should have been loose ball.
I bet he dove 3-5 times per game for loose balls.

Those were the days...

Oh, and Dwayne Schintzius---WHAT A BUM...Does anyone recall the Tennis racket incident that one year and him getting dumped by tennis balls at every away stadium...
