This. But I'll add that he is highly liked and respected by other coaches, and was important a building a strong positive culture at LSU. So, he may be able to surround himself with good recruiters.

Look at his time in Wisconsin. Not as much talent as LSU and still had great defenses. Can’t question his coaching or defensive mind. Only question marks are the lack of head coach experience from an administrative point of view and recruiting. Leave it at that and let the man work.

As others had said, very smart guy and great DC who has seen what it takes to win a National Championship but he will need to surround himself with more type A personality coaches to recruit and motivate to be successful as a head coach.

I think he’s a stand up guy. He has seen ups and downs on a lot of different staffs. I think that has instilled loyalty in him. He’s not going to go jumping into a situation that he doesn’t think will be good for everyone involved. He’ll make some good hires and he’ll let his coaches coach.

Recruiting seems to be a common negative theme

It's not negative. It's just an unknown because he's never run a team. Also people see a guy with a reserved personality and think he can't recruit, even though he's been in on a lot of elite players since arriving at LSU.

Honestly, you should feel great. He’s the best DC in the country and a solid solid hire. You may make the CFP in 2-3 years being you’re in the big 12 where there’s been an overall lack of defensive play.

Do not listen to knuckleheads on this site telling you he may not be a good administrator, recruiter, etc. They know nothing.

He’s an a good Defensive mind, but to say he’s elite is a stretch.

Inconsistent defensive play a lot of the time.

Good luck to Dave and glad he helped us win a NC.

Nah, he’s not a great recruiter. But you can deal with that by hiring good recruiters

I’m a Baylor and LSU fan. Baylor’s getting a great defensive mind that has been thought to be very good HC material. Nobody really knows until you ascend to top job and have all the responsibility.

But he already knows how to beat Tom Herman and Lincoln Riley....so that’s a huge ‘W’ for Baylor.

I’m feeling great for my Bears and sad for my Tigers.

He’s been a superior DC here and Wisconsin. He had a hard time getting this year’s defense to gel as a team, but far from a failure, this year was probably was his most difficult and best coaching job.

Baylor HC is a logical step in his coaches ladder, and hiring a national championship coordinator is a logical step for Baylor. Both bring instant credibility, and that’s to both’s best interest.

I have no clue what his head coaching ability is. I thought Jimbo was a sure fired hit at Fl St and Bo Pelini the same at Nebraska. Right and wrong, go figure.

You pay your money and take your chances. I think your chances are better than average. Fortunately for y’all, you’re not asking about the Chief!

Wish Aranda the best of luck, and thanks for the memories!

Good luck Baylor and

Aranda is a very good defensive coach...look for your defense to improve...now as a Head Coach, I’m just not sure how he will do....he is now going up against Schools such as Texas, aTm, TCU, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and even LSU etc. in recruiting top talent in the state of Texas...this is going to be a tough assignment and Baylor coming off a great season will add even more pressure to succeed in his 1st yr...I do wish him all the luck....

Aranda is a good cultural fit with Baylor. He’s a great guy, cerebral, quiet, hard working, smarter than his opponent, creative etc.we all wonder about his ability as a primary program recruiter.

Busch is money. Recruits his arse off- seriously underrated by the fan on the street.

Aranda is an outstanding DC and will build Baylor to compete defensively in the big 12.

You should have the best defense in the big 12 if he can get players there. Saban/kiffin have said Aranda was always the best prepared defense they played yearly.

I think the same things that make him a great DC (attention to detail, willingness to adapt, great teacher) will also make him a good HC.

As a HC he’ll have to get out of his comfort zone a bit to recruit and schmooze boosters, and will need to hire the right OC, but I’m sure he knows that and Baylor is probably a great situation for him to get a first time opportunity. I wish him the best.

Wishing him the best in Waco. Pretty cut & dry without the charisma of a big time HC, but absolutely no concerns that the program will be well managed within the limits.

He can get stuck in his ways and rely on his scheme a lot

To be honest if you guys don’t have a dominant pass rusher then his defense can be bad

He’s not going to yell at your team to get them in line.

If theyresoect him and listen to what he tells them, they will do well. If they don’t. It will be a disaster.
