There are only 2 of PM's Notre Dame buddies left on the staff.

Where did I say we "sucked" as a team ?? We struggle at the plate and at times suck offensively .. If you don't see that at the games, I can't help you ..

there is no better college baseball program in the country than LSU. we rolled through Regionals, and we're 1 game away from CWS. Take a prozac, drama queen.
It might be time for you to leave the 1990s .. We've won one title in the last 11 seasons .. The rest of college baseball has caught us ..

Perfectly said!

Nothing more aggrevating than taking call strike three with runners in scoring position.

Both. Both are Javi's fault too.

Those are pretty noticeable numbers.
I think you make some good points. How many times has LSU been unable to make adjustments in game this year? We face soft pitching outside and yet the team still tries to pull the ball all day long. That falls on coaching, plain and simple. Even in high school when we got pitched a certain way the coaches would instruct players to make adjustments. In 2009 we had a solid lineup who could make adjustments and go the other way when necessary. Right now it just seems like we have a bunch of guys who want to be dead pull hitters and we sit back and keep hacking away instead of going with pitches and trying to make the right situational plays. It is really frustrating because we have guys in this lineup who have produced in the past (Hanover, Nola) and guys who obviously have raw hitting talent (Katz, Rhymes, Dozar as shown at times in the past, Edward, Ross). It's fair to criticize why the coaches aren't coaching the players up to hit with good approaches and play smart baseball. I hope that the bats can carry us tomorrow because the improvements the pitching staff has made have carried this team to a ton of wins with what has been at times a very limited offense.

I would fire my Mom if she weren't producing. Dead weight on the payroll is a drag on the bottom line.
You could make a pretty damn strong argument that, offensively, this team has outperformed its talent level this year.
That's not to say that Sanchez is a great coach and that LSU couldn't upgrade. But, there really is nothing to point to that would justify his firing this year.

Did you go back and apologize to that guy for incinuating he was stupid for saying Gausman would start the 12th inning today?
Posted on 6/9/12 at 9:29 pm to RealityTiger
I predicted that on a previous post. It was a logical move by PM.

Was that you?
You should have bumped that thread this morning.

IMO, it was a bad decision because it involved too much risk.
In the end, it worked out because the first game only lasted one inning.

For a team returning essentially 6 of 8 position players, I didn't expect to see the noticeable decline we've seen this year
Last year outside of Mahtook the team hit .293. This year the team is hitting .288.
quote:Runs per game this year is 6.17
Runs are down by 1.2 per game (from 6.92 to 5.70).
quote:Why did you stop mentioning the 8 extra games when it comes to these numbers? According to your total numbers....LOB this year is 7.51 per game, last year 7.25. Strikeouts per game is 5.84 this year and 5.92 last year. The double plays are definitely noticeable, but the difference is still only about .25 per game. I would like to see our fly ball % this year compared to last year but I don't know of anywhere that would have it. I would think that % is lower this year, meaning more ground balls and double plays....but I don't have the numbers so its just a guess.
We've left 481 on base compared to 406 last years, struck out 39 more times and hit into 28 more double plays

Sanchez has only had one person to teach him after he left high school and that person is Paul M, we need a hitting coach not a fluckie that PM has trained

A hire on the level of Dunn in the field of hitting would be huge.

You are a quick study. It's a good thing that college baseball has more parity. What happened in the 90's will never be duplicated.

Well, if you are going to isolate the best hitter on the team and remove his average, you have to take away Rhymes and his .439 average. If you did that, this year's team is hitting .270. That would put us tied for 179th in the nation. That's just awful.

Yeah, I messed up the numbers when I was pulling them off the spreadsheet.

Pretty sure everyone is aware we've played more games this year than last. Nonetheless, if you look at those isolated numbers, there isn't much more support your argument.
In those 8 games, we are averaging less than 5 runs a game (a full run below our season average), left 50 men on base (meaning we are still 30 more men left on base compared to last year), averaging less than 8 hits a game and struck out 49 times (meaning we were actually below last year's strike out total following the regular season).
And while runs/game is down only slightly, we have scored 5 runs or less in 56% of our games this season (36 of 64) compared to only 36% of our games last season (20 of 56)

Because your comment was to my reply about losing Mahtook. You said there was still a big decline with the returning players, but it isn't far off at all from what they did last year.
