Pete was the greatest 'distributor' in the history of college basketball. CJ on the wing.

I have no idea why I tried to ask tRant to ever think from a coaching perspective to match up with all time great schools.

Because you don’t sit the guy that scored almost 30 points a game for his only two seasons on campus. He’s a two time All American. He’s not sitting on the bench. You need a guy to distribute, you have Simmons on the floor. That guy can’t shoot and will gladly pass the ball.

Anyone that has Scales on the list without Macklin needs their head examined

He doesn’t mean from a college coaching perspective. What he seems to mean is from a bitty basketball or 5th grade coaches perspective. You’re right you don’t sit CJ in any scenario. You’ve got Maravich, who averaged 6.2 assist per game his Sr. season and over 5 per game for his career with no teammates. He’s more than enough of a distributor and one of if not the greatest passer in history. But since he’s not technically a “point guard” I guess to this guy he doesn’t count. He’s also got Simmons in his starting 5 who’s a great passer so his argument is plain silly.

I would have:

Ben Simmons-Point Forward, He can run the point, see over the zones.

Chris Jackson-Shooting Guard, interchangeable, can also move to point, and Simmons to Forward.

Pistol-Shooting Guard, could move over to point and send CJ to shooting Guard.

Rudy Macklin-Would be my Power Forward

Shaq-Enough Said.

In todays game you have to have players that can play multiple positions. I can interchange, Pistol and CJ in the backcourt, play Simmons at Small or Power Forward. I would have a mismatch against any team I face.

scales didn’t make my 13: again. Here are my 13
Starting 5 using a little Old School...
Kenny Higgs point
Pete at 2
Simmons at 3 (some might question this, but he would be a baby with these others and Wade coaching them. He would be humble pie).
Tyrus Thomas at 4
Shaq at 5

On my Bench
CJ
Bob Petit
John Williams
Jerry Reynolds
Stromile Swift
Rudy Macklin
Garett Temple
Don Redden

You obviously have no defense with either of them really on the point. CJ either to be honest. In fact I almost went Ethan Martin on the point because of how well he defended.

You have to play Jordan. Who is going be on him and worthy?

Your starting 5 would be pretty simple to defend. Simmons, Tyrus Thomas, and Shaq on the floor at the same time? Shaq would need space in the middle to go one on one.

Jordan and Worthy would be hell to defend. You go defense and then feed Shaq.

It would be interesting. Against NC you might go Temple at 2 and Pete at the point since he was 6’5” and Jordan would be on him and Temple on Jordan on D. You need length in e perimeter and probably Thomas in the post to defend with Shaq.
So your 3 would need to be a scorer and I’m going with Petit or John Williams or Jerry Reynolds since he could play D and is long. Nakita Wilson isn’t on my team, but I really wanted his offense on the baseline. Petit was Money at 15’. Great player.

Higgs averaged 18-22ppg+ and 9 assists a game. Pistol and him would keep people out the middle. I would sub in Petit if it isn’t working because of his mid range jumper.

You know what I find hilarious is people have no idea who Kenny Higgs was...
he was Mr Basketball in Kentucky and an All American.

Go look at the LSU HoF. He was the glue for those early Brown teams.

Cj great one on one but no D and not a distributor.

I will take Ethan Martin at point elite defender on ball and had a knack for making big steal at crucial times.

Pete at 2 guard enough said

Durand Macklin at forward best offensive rebounder I have ever seen in college basketball - had 32 rebounds in a game as a freshman.

Bob Petit at 4 he could play high post low post game with Shaq

Shaq Diesel at Center

Off bench Big John Wlliams - smooth as could be

Willie "the supersub" Sims - used to get introduced with starting five

Greg "The Cookieman" Cook - need an enforcer and elite low post defender - Loved me some Cookieman

Chris Jackson - instant O off the bench

Leonard "Mitchell" another great defender and Mitch was an elite athlete.

Anthony Wilson -3 pt shooter

Howard "Hi-C" Carter could play guard or forward score and defend.

13th man - "Disco" Dewayne DeArmond just for general principle!

RIP Cookie and Disco Loved you guys!!!

Tyrus Thomas was second team SEC and you have him on the top 5. Glen Davis was Tyrus’ teammate and SEC POY but doesn’t make the backup squad. Makes sense.

Loved the way you think. That’s why I picked up Kenny Higgs. With that, I loved Jerry Reynolds for his size and defensive skills against people like tall shooters. With that, I had to have Garrett Temple on my team for special players like Jordan and others to try to slow them down. The MJ in college was r the same MJ in pros

Higgs averaged just over 6 assists per game. He was a second team All-American per one publication. He was not Kentucky Mr. Basketball.

You gotta have specialty players if you make a full team.

For God's sake, you have to have Jose Vargas on the squad, just to create mayhem. He was the perfect combination of raw physical skills, and total lack of knowing what the frick the rules were. If he could dunk on someone or volleyball spike a shot back at someone, he would. And he didn't really care if it was the most obvious goaltend, or if he got called for walking 3 seconds before he posterized you- he would do it, and then scream and laugh in your weak boy face.
