Big game for McMahon there, if he could pull that off...

A good game to add to the schedule. Is Tech likely to be as dominant as they have been over the past couple of seasons?

It would be cool if someone else could get a Kansas matchup every once in a while.

I guess they usually alternate home/away for these matchups?

LSU at TCU was tough last year, but at least TCU has to travel to Miss St now.

These match ups are all about ratings. It should be Au vs Kansas and UT vs Baylor.

That'll be a tough game, but could be really good for the NET if we win it.

EDT: No, they aren't a two-year series. The matchups are new each year.

I'm REALLY surprised to see LSU get matched up with Texas Tech here. First, they (i.e. ESPN) usually try to matchup the teams based upon preseason expectations. That's why you see Baylor v. Arkansas, Kansas v. Kentucky, Tennessee v. Texas. All of those are expected to finish in the top 4 of their conferences. Texas Tech will likely be picked in the preseason to finish 5th or 6th in an always strong Big 12. LSU will likely be picked to finish 8th in the SEC. Maybe ESPN is a little more "bullish" on LSU.

Second, this will be the 3rd time LSU has matched up the Texas Tech in this event. And the second straight time LSU has played them in the PMAC in the event (LSU blew a lead in 2021). Before today, I would have bet a lot LSU would be playing Iowa St. While the "revenge" factor would have been fun, Texas Tech (assuming they can remain strong in year 2 post-Beard) should be a better matchup.

2nd EDT: At least that is one good game at home. I hope McMahon can schedule another 1 or 2 in Nov/Dec. That was the ONE aspect about Wade's scheduling I didn't like. LSU almost never played any "name brand" opponents in Nov/Dec. Yes, Liberty, Ohio, ETSU, UNC-Wilmington, etc were good mid-majors. But casual fans aren't showing up to the PMAC on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday in Nov/Dec to watch those games. They will if you play an ACC, or Big 10, or Big East opponent.

They are probably going to be a borderline Top 25 team, but they'll be great defensively like they have been the past few years. It may drop off slightly without the continuity they've had the last few years. They'll be heavily-reliant on transfers, though, so they might just be rounding into form around the challenge time.

As a Kansas fan, it would be nice to see someone other than Kentucky. They had Tennessee a couple of years in a row, but they play Kentucky almost yearly with the Champions Classic + the Big XII/SEC Challenge. Hopefully it will change.

I understand ESPN wanting to create the best matchups they can to drawn in the most viewers possible. But there has to be some sort of balance. This will be the 3rd time LSU has played Texas Tech in 7 years. As you can see, even though Tech will probably be a good matchup, its not one that is generating a ton of excitement among the fans.

They should base it off of the previous years standings. Would have been nice to play Kansas during the Covid killed season. That LSU team was on fire around that time too (before eating da poo poo from @Vandy on) and would have given Kansas a game.

ETA: but that means LSU would play TCU this season so no real excitement there. Texas Tech is theoretically an upgrade.

wouldn't mind a chance to get a rematch win against texas tech

next year ucf, houston, byu, and cincinnati join the big 12 so the future of the SEC-Big 12 challenge is intruiging

if texas & oklahoma doesnt join til 2025 we will have an even 14-14 split the next 2 seasons after this one

I wonder if The SEC/BIG12 Challenge will continue on 2023 and on.

I’d love to eventually get a chance to see LSU play at Kansas.
