Best shooter/scorer I've ever witnessed at LSU. That was a fun fun team to watch. Still sucks they didn't make it to Final 4.

I still have his Sports Illustrated Cover framed in my office.

He was as exciting a college player as there was. So many huge shots! Four point plays! Off the court, he was rarely seen, quiet, shy. He was either in class, on the way to or from class, or on the way to or from practice. Conversely, you could find Shaq in the quad every single day with a crowd of people around him.

Get over it.

Nobody is retiring Kareem's jersey as Lew Alcindor
Nobody says the greatest heavyweight of all time was Cassius Clay

Mahmoud was an electrifying player at LSU, should have had a better chance in the NBA, and lit up dudes 10 years younger than him in the Big 3.

And to this day - nobody has beat his freshman scoring record - not a single One and Done. If your religion or politics prohibits you from appreciating basketball follow another sport. The game will go on without you.

It's remarkable that LSU might forever hold the basketball single season Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior scoring records.

Guy stands up for what he believes in, which is disrespecting his country, and people hate him for it. That’s fair.

FIFY

And by the way, I'm fine with retiring his jersey - he was a phenomenal player, and may well be a very fine person. I just have trouble getting past the disrespect he showed. And I'd feel the exact same way if he were a WASP - has zero to do with race or religion.

by a long shot, CJ was the most EXCITING athlete I have ever watched in any sport. bar none. the only argument might be for Pistol Pete (which would be a legit debate) but that was pre-me.

i’ve seen highlights of Petit, and Shaq was a monster too, but there was something about CJ. that dude was pure magic. and I just loved the way he carried himself. he never had to say “respect my decision”, I can guarantee that.

Cool. It's about time the university honors Jerry Reynolds. Awesome game in 1984 going head to head with MJ.

LSU players own the NCAA records for scoring average for freshman, sophomore, junior and senior years . That is incredible. CJ and Pistol Pete.

If you don’t like it then you obviously never watched him play. In his day, he was AMAZING. I’m not a fan of his whole name change thing, but that doesn’t take away from his generational talent, all while taking meds for his Tourette’s. So yeah, go ahead and flame Grampa, but I’m fortunate for having witnessed his legacy.
