Always gonna be hopeful until proven otherwise. PG looks like a good player, we get some leadership returning in Reed, Miller showed some promise late last year and I like the kid from Pennsylvania. Hopefully it comes together

Matt McMahon is possibly the worst coach in lsu bball history.

For the record, McMahon's W/L% is .517. Ol Trent there is .511

(can I still hope for Billy Donovan?) for next season.

Donovan hasn't been a college HC for more than a decade now. Certainly, if he wanted to return to college he's had plenty of opportunities over that time period with better programs than LSU (including most recently, Kentucky) and hasn't shown any interest whatsoever.

Recent history has shown there are generally two ways to get a great coach

1. Hit on a mid-major HC that is ready to make the jump up (Oats, Otzelberger, Golden, McCasland, Hurley, etc); or

2. Catch a "fallen star" (Pearl, Sampson, Pitino, Beard, Wade, or even guys like Smart or Barnes)

I guess, theoretically, Donovan could fit into category 2. But the college game he left is nowhere close to the game he'd re-enter if he chose to return.

Who knows? Maybe Dan Hurley gets liquored up, drives into a 7-11 and UConn fires him...with LSU ready to pounce. Either way, I hope Woodward brings in someone who knows what they are doing beyond just looking at a coaches wikipedia page. Sometimes you have to go a bit deeper than just the resume to find the right guy.

Final straw for CMM this year.

3-15 last year in the SEC. What is the target record to in SEC to make the tournament? 9-9?

Because of how bad the program is.

I can't really agree with that, even when we are decent it's a fight for support. Just ask WW.

Yeah bro, I truly hope we can put it together and make some type of noise.

It’s funny/interesting to me that the diehard MBB fans are basically told to shut up and sit down by the AD and bystanders.

It’s still October though.

I hear you Alt, but at least Donovan would make our program interesting instead of this death.

While at NC State some coach is pre-season top 25 in season #1. Not sure how that’s possible! It takes 3.836283 years to build a team according to the McManiacs……

Also worth noting that the reason he took the NC State job was because they promised to spend as much as Duke and UNC on NIL.

I’m fairly open that I think the writing is on the wall and this is going to be a wasted season and a continuation of what we’ve seen. However, I will likely watch every game and cheering to be wrong and hoping the McBouncyball Tigers put it all together for a run in the SEC and NCAAT.

You’re a better fan than me. I’m going to not watch out of spite and wait for the “McMeh fired” announcement

The #1 2025-26 McMen excuse for when we inevitably are 2-10 in SEC play will be “NIL collectives take time to build up! Can’t expect the moon in just one year. Be patient!” Just watch.

As a diehard MBB fan, the state of the program is just sad to me. The rest of the SEC are making big strides in basketball and we’re just content being at the bottom of the barrel.

McMahon’s tenure has been a failure so far. No other way to put it. Woodward’s apathy is also troubling.

Reports show Duke spending around double what NC State spent this year but NIL numbers are often false and hard to pinpoint, especially in basketball.

9-9 wasn't enough to make it in 2023. It would have been more than enough to make it last year. It really depends on the strength of the conference this season and who/where LSU wins games.

On paper, LSU doesn't have a good OOC schedule. NONE of the home games will be of any relevance to a tournament resume. LSU will have one true road game (BC) and 4 neutral site games. I think MUST win at least 3 of those 5 games....maybe even 4...to have a reasonable margin for error in SEC play.

If you want to look at a possible baseline resume, look at Texas last year. They were 17-15 (6-12) in the reg season. They only had 5 Q1 wins during the reg season. They picked up two more in the SEC Tournament in what may have been one of the rare instances where a performance in the conf. tournament helped an at-large team. Ultimately, Texas was one of, if not the last team, to make the NCAAT (play in games)

In 9 of 10 years that resume would have given them no shot to make the NCAAT. However, because the SEC had a historically strong season, it was just enough to get them in. The SEC probably won't be as strong this year as it was last year.

I'd say the minimum number of SEC wins LSU would need to even be considered for the tournament is 7. But there is no set benchmarks to = a tournament appearance. The resume is viewed as a whole.

I don’t think Woodward is apathetic, nor do I believe the CoachMc buyout (fully guaranteed contract) is the issue.

It’s Woodward’s ego and pride. Instead of admitting a mistake, he made excuses and added $X mil to NIL instead of putting it on the buyout and new coach.

That’s pride and ego and is simply not smart. It’s one of the worst attributes for leadership.

Don’t worry, people will be making up numbers left and right to justify some initial contention.

Yep, they’ll be created as necessary for whichever narrative they serve.
