There’s no such thing as “IT” or “clutch gene”

That homerun was my 2nd favorite LSU baseball memory, 2nd only to the Warren Morris moment

The Tre bunt play was up there too.

Just a true “holy shite” moment.

What makes it even better is that it picked up skenes during a very rare falter

Not surprised. PT would have been very limited if not nada.

I'm sure Livvy could find more than a handful of faults with Paul. No matter how hot they are, they always find shite to bitch about

just sheer coincidence that some guys have much higher success rates in clutch spots than others?

They will probably cater to Guidry and give him a chance as a starter

have you watched any of the fall or tracked anything?

you do realize that guidry spent the bulk of the summer in arizona at driveline right? you also understand he has worked really hard on correcting his biggest thing holding him back......his bodyweight right? he is up to almost 190 and FB velo is up around 94 in the fall and i would expect to be in the 95-96 range in season.

he was pretty much unhittable in the fall.

DL worked on his FB velo and worked with him on tunnelling and pitch design on his 3rd and 4th pitches.

expect him to start and dont be surprised if he is our ace by mid april either.

and this is coming from me who has blasted Guidrys lack of commitment to the weightroom, lack of commit to eating and just overall doing what it takes

doesnt hurt though that LSU finally got a bad arse S&C guy in there in Chris Martin. hell guidry was up 11 pounds in the last 12 week meso cycle alone.

I actually think Casan Evans is on William Schmidt's level. I don't see the need to start either pitcher. Let them get seasoned and work on a third pitch. Until then, they are nice options to have on the back end.

Of course I’ve tracked. Topping out at 94-96 is one thing over 2 innings vs doing it for 5-6 innings.

I’m pretty sure im one of the biggest Guidry fans on here but I also follow big league trends and gaining 5mph in velo and maintaining that over 5-6ip would make him a unicorn. Especially a guy that has experienced velocity spikes on a much smaller workload over his career.

I think Paul Skenes' IT factor was that he threw 102 with 2 feet of run and had the best slider in baseball.

I think you mean William Schmidt. Evans is just becoming a PO and it's worked very well for him.

I dont think hes sitting 94-95. According to what i saw in his driveline update he was around 88-89 coming in and left 91-92 which is a nice jump, but he isnt going to be blowing people away with gas.

not all good players have good numbers in clutch situations.

not all players who have good numbers in clutch situations are good players all the time.

Met him recently

He's involved with an agency that represents players

We talked about LSU, but IIRC he showed up for a cup of coffee

There is certainly no "clutch gene", but there is definitely a thing as "IT".

Some players handle pressure situations much better than others.

All indications is Guidry will get a chance at a starting role
I think Anderson and Shores are in that mix too

Ware is gonna be Herring's replacement
Eyanson and Evans can be in similar roles

Jay is really high on Schmidt, Rizy and Williams and the good thing is you don't have to rush them, they can go at their own pace

he was at 94 at barbe his senior year and adding 5mph when at that low of a bodyweight and being as weak as he was before is not some unicorn thing...done often with guys that are willing to put in the work.

usually though its to get guys to 90....most guys at his weight to height coefficient dont throw 90 and those that do are at a very high risk for injury.

he was hitting 93-94 in some of the fall. but not sitting where you said.

i think in the fall he is able to get up to 96-97 and sit 94
