Like starting a guy on Fridays who threw 87-88 from the right side and his primary pitch was a curve?

And this isnt digging at Hilliard, he stepped up as he had to. Just shows where we're at now compared to last year which is nuts from a pitching standpoint.

Can Stevenson hold off Kling?

I think a lot of people is holding onto the Stevenson name.

Ran some quick numbers just for reference:

Stevenson in 2 falls, 2 summers, and 1 spring stats:
.248 avg (76/297)
6 HR
66 RBI
19 SB
28% K Rate

Kling in 1 summer and 1 fall stats:
.261 avg (40/153)
8 HR
31 RBI
13 SB
25% K Rate

Looking quickly I think Kling has the better OBP and SLG also. I don't think anyone will hold off Kling. I think he will be starting in RF for most of the season, if not all.

Yeah Stevenson only has the slight experience edge but Kling is better than Stevenson talent wise in just about every way.

I haven’t gotten anything more than 4th OF vibes from Stevenson. Ruddell also outplayed him this fall, too.

In the Cauble interview, Jay specifically namechecked Crews, Kling, and Stevenson as a late-inning defensive outfield.

Ruddell has speed as well. At the very least he'd have good speed for a corner, but may be capable of spot work in CF should the need ever arise.

Mic Paul is supposed to be really good defensively as well, but I don't know a ton about him, even after the fall.

even if Neal is the better overall option, for Jay to keep from exposing him too much especially early for conference teams to get too much of a book on him.

You are making this way too complex. CJJ doesn't care if conference teams get a book on his catcher. CJJ is gearing for the post season where everyone will have a book on everyone else.

I think Kling will go the same route as Crews. RF this season then slide over to CF next season.

I'm not sure if its pressure Stevenson puts on himself or what, but it seems like he came in early and was swinging the bat really well. Never really improved from there. If anything, he may have regressed from when he first got here. To me he is basically another DiGiacomo with a little more pop. For the speed he has he needs lower the K rate and raise his OBP.

Stevenson must turn into a gold glover at practice

Yeah, I think it's likely that Stevenson gets beaten out by Kling. I also think it's likely that Thompson holds onto the SS position. I'm just saying, outside of Pearson, Crews, Morgan and White, nothing is guaranteed. I think you can bank on those four.

BTW, I think the reason Stevenson's prospects are more highly thought of around here is because of the way his brother improved his hitting over time. I don't think something like that is likely to translate, and the younger brother isn't as good a defensive player, either.

I don't think I'm 100% sold on Pearson being a guarantee yet. I want to see a little more this year from him that looks more like last season rather than what he looked like in the summer and fall.

With that said, we know he is capable of handling SEC pitching. So I'm expecting him to be just fine.

Yeah Pearson looked plain bad this past fall practice/scrimmages, but after hitting .300 as a freshman in the SEC hard to not give him the opportunity first out there to start the season.

Cool to have such a deep and diverse mix of guys to use off the bench. You have RH/LH, young/experienced, power, speed, etc.

Kling is a day 1 starter. He’s a five tool player which don’t make it to college very often who can hit anywhere in the line up. Coming out of high school, he was rated similar to Crews before pulling his name out of the draft.

People that haven't seen them much will also be surprised at the size of Kling and Jared Jones. Jobert, Travinski, Kling, and Jones are all very similar size, for reference, Kling a bit more wiry of the bunch. Nonetheless, they aren't going to look like little kids when you see them.

Great point. People will be very impressed with Kling's size, power, and speed combination. His arm is also very good. That is why I like him in RF.

Someone mentioned it a couple pages back that he runs like a gazelle. A hit in the RCF gap and he is looking 3 out the box and most of the time will probably get there.

If you watched any of the games, practices during the fall you wouldnt have Guidry starting at 2B. Hes going to be a stud but there are several guys ahead of him right now in the middle infield.

No. He is a late inning replacement at worst.
