It doesn't look like Reyz is being considered as a starter. They like him on the back end.
Collins was also not a guy initially being looked at to start, but it seems that Jay is moving some pieces around now.
Money, Hellmers, Coleman, and Hellmers were all being looked at to start. Each have had mixed results. Edwards has been hurt, but was not being looked at to start.
Lansville has thrown well. We'll see where he lands.
I don't think Jay likes to name a closer. Reyz seems to be the guy they want at the back end. Gervase could throw some there. Grant Taylor has been good at the back end. The rest depend on who doesn't start .

So right now, are we looking at a weekend rotation of Reyzelman,Fontenot and Collins?
Genuine question, what has led you to believe Reyzelman and Collins are front runners for the rotation right now?

He said he’d stretch 7 guys out (actually looks like 9-10, potentially)to start games and that has looked like
Fontenot, D
Hilliard
Cooper
Money
Dutton
Lansville
Coleman
Floyd
Hellmers
Reyzelman has only really thrown an inning or 2 at a time.

I think Reyzelman is going to be used as a closer. They have not stretched him out. IMO he is looking at Fontenot D, Hilliard, Cooper, Money, Dutton, Coleman, and Lansville as starters.

Dutton is a freshman right hander who throws in the low 90's . He fills up the zone and could be a mid game inning eater on this staff. He will have a more significant role in future seasons, IMO.

You need to think of Reyzelman as your high leverage reliever. Could be to come in during 6th or 7th inning of a tight game or to close it out like a traditional 9th inning guy.
His stuff is electric.
What determines a starter versus reliever for Jay and Kelly is simply "can he get through the batting order at least twice."
They've already pretty much admitted they don't have a guy that can consistently get through the line up 3x like a Friday night ace might do.
They seem to like the arms they have to mix and match.

Honestly nothing other than what I've picked up from here. I thought Rez was a starter at the Cape this summer and that he was gonna be stretched out ala Fontenot. I said Collins and totally meant Cooper! I figured Cooper would be our weekend lefty.

Cooper was mainly a 1-2 inning guy at Arizona. My take is he's stretching him out to be that 3 inning long relief from the left side. The only other options you have are Hasty and Shaffer and both of those are one hitter to an inning types.
Floyd is showing some of the best life on his fastball but the control of those secondary pitches scare me at times. If he just has the fastball and changeup one day it may be a 1 inning stint where you'd rather have him at the back half than starting.

Biggest thing with Dutton is he is apparently healthy and his velocity is back up. He was shut down last Spring during his team’s championship run with shoulder issues and I don’t think he pitched over the Summer either.

I’m guessing Cooper starts game 2 opening weekend

That's what everyone's guessing based upon the scrimmage starts.
I still think he would be better utilized out of the pen.

I don’t like having your best arm as a reliever but I guess we will see.

I think they really want a LH starter, but I also think you’re under selling what Shaffer can do. He’s shown he’s better in short bursts but he’s still capable of being more than a one batter matchup or even a one inning guy.

Not saying you are wrong

What's up with Coleman? He was electric at times last year. Is he still too inconsistent control-wise? Need a better handle on his secondary pitches?

Nothing's wrong with him, we're at the phase in preseason where everyone's determining who will be where based upon scrimmages. I love Coleman this year.

If he stays composed absolutely he's got gas.

Why didn't Bianco play in the scrimmage yesterday?
Posted on 2/8/22 at 10:15 am to ProjectP2294
People drooled over Shaffer after he went to pitching full time in 2020 and into 2021. Then Arizona shelled him and he never could quite find it again until they moved him to the pen. I followed him pretty closely over that 2020-2021 span. He has it. Maybe he finds it again here.
