Calm down Josh. It’s the first weekend of spring scrimmages. You can’t melt until at least the first midweek game in March. We’ve discussed this.

I think Pinstripes team today will be close to the starting lineup opening day except insert Thompson at SS and move Doughty to 2nd. Replace Stevenson with Dugas in LF. DH one of McManus, Merrifield, Beloso, DiGiacomo Travinski, or any of the others you like.
Starting pitchers I would go with are D. Fontenot or Cooper with Sunday still TBD. I don't expect the starters to go very long so alot of bullpen arms will be used opening weekend.
I would perfer Merrifield at 3rd with Berry DHing but, I think coach will let Berry get the first start. He has handled 3rd well this weekend in the few chances he has had.
McManus has done better behind the plate this spring than he did in fall ball but if Fontenot starts Friday, I think coach will go with the more experienced Milazzo to catch him. Milazzo's bat has been showing improvement over what he did in fall, as well. The results down back that up but he is making better contact lately.
I think the experimenting will go on throughout pre conference games to see what works best. There are too many capable players on this team to relegate them to bench duty only. If any of the starters struggle at any position, there is someone waiting to step up. It is a nice situation to deal with as a fan

I choose Tuesday March 8th vs Mcneese as my designated first melt of the year day.
The bourbon shall flow.

Midweek game, smart. The rant will be tearing down the Box by that point

Trent looked like his usual solid, dependable self. I can see him in a fireman role this year or someone to eat up the middle innings of games due to his experience.

It will be interesting to see how the staff handles who starts. I could see a lot of split time situations. Like Scuba said, Milazzo starting can sometimes depend on the pitcher. I agree with Scuba about 3B as well. Our strongest team is with Merrifield at 3B and that will play out when it really matters.

thanks Scuba

Johnson mentioned we have 7 guys battling for weekend starters. Coleman, Lansville, Cooper, Helmers,Fontenot, Hilliard, Floyd all went 3 innings.

How did the SS position look over the 3-game scrimmage? Hope we get Thompson back soon.
Thanks for your detailed posts. Can't wait for the season to get going. Team is loaded with potential.

Solid point. None of those names are too surprising either

Three of the seven errors this weekend were from the SS position, this is not a high number compared to other positions due to the greater number of chances, IMO. There were 2 Es at third, one at first, and one in left field.

Doughty looked ok. Holt played there some too as well as Cranford.
It's going to be Thompson/Cranford...Doughty's a heck of an athlete but he doesn't have the quickest first step with is vitale. He'll settle in at 2B/3B and do fine.

Can’t wait for your preview tomorrow. We’re finally getting there

I agree. Those 2 are the only true SS on the team

Lansville had the best line of the weekend. No runs, 3 hits, and no walks.
Hellmers' line was pretty good, too. No runs, 3 hits, 2 walks.
Next would probably be Fontenot. 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk.
Floyd limited damage but walked 5.
Hilliard didn't walk any but gave up 3 runs on 4 hits.
Coleman only gave up 1 hit but walked 4 and gave up 3 runs.
Cooper - 2 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks.
After weekend 1, inconclusive.

Did hilliard start the game he pitched?
