A) What exactly was Ell's argument?

B) I don't think it's a hard distinction to make... correct me if I'm wrong.

If you don't make a distinction between game and raw power, most people here are going to assume game power. Which would mean production.

The inconsistency. It's the same argument he makes every year.

It's not, if you're wanting to do that. The audience here doesn't want to. They're not reading it the same way as people who are familiar with scouting scales, prospect rankings, etc.

It's written for The Advocate audience, not the FanGraphs audience.

I mean this had a lot to do with the fact that Kris Bryant was likely an 80 in the POWER and a 70 in the HITTING category.

Jones has the power there's no doubt about that... but he is a 55 in hitting which is fair, and likely won't finish with as many HRs as someone who say is a 70 power and 70 hitter. At least this is why I think they're listed separately.

Given any category, what percentage of all players should be given 80s? Top 5%? Less? What about 70s (considered plus plus)?

And that's fine! Not everyone is going to agree with a thread based on someone else's personal rankings... but overall it's pretty damn good. It's possible to disagree without making the whole thread seem like trash, which is where I think he misses.

Yeah, that's understood.

I don't know. Can he hit the ball as hard and as far in a game as Kris Bryant can? That doesn't mean that he will do it as often. Paxton Kling only had 1 stolen base last year. Should his speed be a 50?

I don't really care. I think this whole thing is much to do about nothing, but I like to play devil's advocate and argue sometimes

I wouldn't necessarily limit it to a set amount of players, but just base it on the players themselves. Every year is different being you could have 5 80's in D1 or 55 80's. Just depends.

My only reason for defending Jones' 80 is because he's built like a brick shithouse and swings the bat like it's a toothpick. But like I said before, that doesn't mean he's gonna lead the nation, or even the team, in HRs.

Even at 55, that’s less than 1% of D1 baseball players. You didn’t have that many hit 20 HRs last year fwiw.

Also, when you talk about him being a 55 rated hitter, you make it sound like that’s where he’s at now and not his potential. Is that correct? He is a max 55 Hitter to you?

I would argue that right now Jones is a 40 hitter.

Maybe less if you consider his BIPavg.

I mean he's certainly got potential to be much better than 55, most guys in the purple and gold do. Hitting is a streaky thing that fluctuates often. Some weekends he'll be a 30 others he'll be a 70, but overall I'd say he's at a 55 now. You just hope to see more 70 weekends at the plate than 30's. Wouldn't surprise me to see him creep closer to that 65 range though.

Yall are being dicks. We all know Adam isn't a professional scout and his ratings aren't the greatest, but he puts in the effort every year to give us something to read about LSU baseball and get us hyped up in the preseason. His knowledge of the team isn't the greatest on this site but It's nice to have and should be appreciated, especially since no one else is doing it. Just take this thread for what it's supposed to be, an opportunity for more casual fans to learn the new players' names and a little bit of crack to get the juices flowing for baseball season

It could have been written with a tad more tact but I read no malice in it. But enough petty thread derailment.

How has white looked at 3b since coming back? Beginning of last year he was better than Berry but not by a whole lot. By the time the CWS came around he looked really good out there. If he can start from that and build we'll be in really good hands. If he's gonna take some time to get back into form we'll be OK but I could see some late game defensive subs for him.

Jay has already said Griffin Cooley will redshirt this season. He will not push for any playing time.

I see you mentioned that later in your post. Little misleading to put he can push for playing time when he will be redshirting.
