Thanks. I'll probably end up listening during lunch or something. I can't imagine it's more than 15-20 minutes long.

Was about 25 minutes long. Nothing super juicy said it in. Talked mostly about how they are still learning how the team will fit in different situation day in and day out to be able to create the best lineup for that situation.
Talked very highly of Chase Shores.
Asked if anyone is standing out to crack the lineup besides the obvious Crews. Johnson said they are still working through that part to figure things out. Said Crews will play, Tre will play, White, Thompson those guys will be there day in and day out.
Another part was that this weekend the scrimmages will be the exact times that opening weekend will be and they will be 9 innings each.
And lastly, my stat spreadsheet made the show. So now I know that Mahtook depends on my stat sheet to form his opinions.

I’m listening now.
Jay: “That’s why I’ve felt like making your expectations really really clear to the player is so important”
Lester: “Jay sends messages to players through the media”

Nippolt has 5BB/1K through the 2 spring weekend scrimmages. I think Jay likes that pesky at bat type of player from the left side. His OBP is .476. Could maybe be a 9 hole to flip the lineup or maybe stick him in the middle of the order to create a good at bat for a power guy further down like Jones or Jobert.
The OBP is nice but he only has 1 XBH so far this spring. You’d like to see him pair the on base skills with some power on contact.

Jay said he’s going to talk with every player Sunday and Monday and explain to them what their role will be starting the season. Jay, again, being very honest and straight forward directly with the players.

I don't think that is the type of production you should expect out of Nippolt. He is an on base type of guy that will work counts and get the occasional XBH and maybe run into a HR or 2.

Jay said 4 guys are locked in on the field and that’s it. He includes Thompson on that list. The other 5 positions are going to have lots of guys being looked at. No shock but Thompson being the guy full stop may trigger some posters.

He specifically left off Milazzo so we can melt for a couple more weeks

quote:Thats not his game. He has more walks than strikeouts at his last two stops. Ideally he is going to be an obp pest if that translates to this level, that’s why Johnson has mentioned him being a compliment to the lineup. I would expect him to be in the bottom third of the order to nag and hopefully get on a base at a relatively high clip for when the lineup turns over.

I do too. Really thought Guidry would be a good 2B option. But it looks like Nippolt and Merrifield are going to be the most likely starters there.

Also, "9 dudes deep with guys that look like they'll pitch in the big leagues someday."

Guidry has the most overall talent. When the lights do come on he's going to be a factor. We just can't say when that will happen.
Dugas has turned into the dark horse here. I'm not counting him out of the 2B competition just yet.

Dugas will have to show out with his bat very quickly to get more opportunities. He had more reps at 3B than he did at 2B this past weekend. Looks like he is being crossed trained to play both as a backup unless he hits the ball and forces his way in the 2B spot in the lineup.
Also has a long shot to go back to LF. Mix in at DH also.
Few players on this team that can be used in multiple ways. Nice to have good options off the bench to PH in spots throughout a game if needed.

What did they say? I only saw part of it

They were just reading stats from it and then even put the spreadsheet on the screen as they were talking about pitching stats. So he on TD. Whether he posts or not we don't know. It was about 5 minutes after Jay interview.

If you aren't digging in all sources for info and data, you aren't trying to be good. What up, Hawk.

Agreed. He is baseball smart enough to take it and make good opinions on the info.
Not sure if you are referring to me as Hawk or not but I am not nor do I know a Hawk. Wish I had a cool nickname like that.
