Block L throwbacks are pretty bad, IMO.

Especially when there is an opportunity to do the script Louisiana

I would think he has as much chance starting in RF as Fontenot does at pitcher! Ha. The thing to keep an eye is is if he starts Berry in right field. Could see multiple options if that happens. Safford at 2nd and Doughty at 3rd or Cranford/Merrifield at 3rd with Doughty at 2nd

Hunt authoritatively ranked the uniforms as below. I'm not sure I care what he has to say but I may try.

1. Grays
2. Whites
3. Pins
4. Purples
5. Golds
6. Block L Throwbacks

I would swap Pins with Grays but other than that I can’t say he’s wrong.

The block L throwback does indeed suck.

The most recent D1 Baseball podcast has them doing a fantasy draft of sorts. They take their player power rankings and assign a value to each player and have $600 to pick a 12 person team.

The player value is the inverse of their spot on the list. So the top 1st baseman is $50, the bottom one is $1.

I think I'm going to attempt this today.

Is it open for anyone to play? Or is it just D1's group of guys?

It's not a competition or anything you can enter. They just did it for podcast content, but I like the concept. I guess as long as you can see their player rankings (I don't know if they're behind a paywall or not) you can make a list.

Based on how they handle is on the pod, if you pick a player not on the rankings, they cost $1.

Those Block L throwbacks definitely my least favorite. I guess I'm alone with the Gold Jersey's being my favorite.

This was the lineup I was thinking. But I do really like Crews in the leadoff spot.

Oh I gotcha. I can see their list of players they picked, but the top 50 players to choose from are behind a pay wall. Keep us updated if you do it.

Such a dumb narrative. Having him in the 2 hole does not guarantee people are going to be on base when he comes to the plate or hits a Homerun

but it does guarantee that no one is on base for him one time per game, which is too many times to guarantee that no one is on base when the best hitter in baseball is up.

And people may downplay the "once per game" but it's indisputable when you aggregate it. Do you really want to ensure that 20% of his plate appearances are with the bases empty?

Like you said, you can't guarantee someone will be on base in front of him, but why would want to guarantee that no one will be for 20% of his plate appearances?

Putting your best hitter at the top spot is not a bad position to put him, especially when you have Doughty and Berry in the middle of the order.

It wasn’t about the top of the lineup. It was about the abortion going on at the bottom. Crews had one of the best slugging on the team yet the lowest RBI. He had something like 7 solo HRs. It was amazing to see how often he came to the plate with no one on.

My with a $600 budget based on the D1 Baseball positional rankings:

C Jimmy Obertop Michigan 17
1b Justin Janas Illinois 24
2b Cade Doughty LSU 46
3b Andrew Benefield Dallas Baptist 20
SS Jordan Thompson LSU 24
OF Kendall Ewell EKU 30
OF Dylan Crews LSU 150
OF Gavin Cross Virginia Tech 148
SP Chase Burns Tenn 9
SP Sebastian Keene Northeastern 13
SP Max Rajcic UCLA 83
RP Eric Reyzelman LSU 34

Chase Burns is the biggest value play available. But you can go off the board completely and get Blake Money for $1. I didn't go off board for any of my picks. I went extreme value plays at most positions, including Thompson at short. But I wanted to spend money on the OF. The first OF I picked was Kendall Ewell. There are some other good values at Catcher but I went with a local St Louis kid.

Matt Moscona@MattMoscona·2mApparently Will Safford has had a great preseason. Don’t be surprised if you see a lot of him this weekend for the Tigers. He might even earn a starting nod.

Matt has no clue what’s going on. He’s simply being told 3rd hand info. Lots of guys will start this weekend. If Berry has a game in the OF, Safford at 2B is likely and not really a shock. But when it happens, Matt will say he called it as if he had some sort of inside knowledge of Jays plan.
