which one?
Tanner Allen from UMS-Wright in Mobile. IF/OF that made the USA Baseball 18U trial roster. Could have been an immediate impact bat. Had been committed for some time. Cannizaro got hired by State about 4 days before the signing period starts. Allen decommitted from LSU as soon as Canny left. Signed with State about 10 days later.

As much as I love me some Pflugerville, this is cronyism/nepotism and how successful orgs deteriorate over time.
Mainieri isn't going to end up leaving LSU on his own terms.

well, that sucks.
Yeah, especially since he's a guy that seems to want to play in college and appears to be a difficult sign for MLB. Hopefully now the right MLB team drafts him and is willing to meet his number.

When it gets out that no one likes working for you and some kids don't like playing for you, how much longer will that coach last in a sport where other programs are just as successful year in and year out and the pay is just as much?

His survival hinges on Cain and Gibbs proving everyone but Mainieri and their parents wrong.

That won't be this year with so much returning, imo. This team will win a lot of games because of talent alone and they're not suddenly going to suck because 1 assistant is gone.

Unless we see a bunch of guys transfer out or just not make it to campus in the 2017 class (which is still possible, lots of draft risks), it will take a couple years to see the recruiting impact on the field.

I'll disagree on one point though. I'm not sure what options PM really had this late. Sure, maybe some people are turned off by him, but I don't think anyone "big" would have come at the time... Now, if PM had known sooner... say late September... he might have had more time to get someone in here from the outside.

I acknowledged the timing aspect in my first post, it's definitely a factor. Just wanted to make sure people realize that it's not the only factor.
PS - you aren't the target audience of people who need to realize.

I think this is starting to feel like the best bet as well.

I don't want to be too quick to judge, but Mainieri's history of laziness and complacency has me worried. If you promote Cain, you have two pitching guys as your full time staff. You're relegating the offense to Gibbs, rising star or not, unproven.
This place melted like 3 mile island when Mainieri hired Grewe to coach the pitchers.

Funny, all of those negative posters predicting doom and gloom were dead on. But the seals are just going to sit there waving their flappers and say, "That's just baseball. Paul is the best!"

Players do not like him, fact. But it will take a few more 2 and BBQs to get him out. This product now is pathetic.

We got three guys cut from the same cloth, and they don't have much experience plus none have ties to La. HS baseball.

I feel like every coach we have outstays their welcome after 5-7 years or so. Seems like nobody can commit to or sustain success for the long term anymore here.

How many of these guys signed because of Cannizaro and not PM, and now they're stuck here.

I know for certain that one SEC assistant was asked if he would take an assistant job at LSU back when Canny was a Tulane candidate. His answer "LSU would be awesome to work at, but Mainieri is such a tool." He also said he wouldn't screw over his current head coach, who has been very loyal to him.
Ive been around him personally and know several players, some ive worked with, been told this is spot on.. honestly you can tell just by looking at him... hes just a weird dude.. I think he is just like Miles, Miles didnt make LSU, LSU made Miles.. Same with Maneri.. LSU made Maneri, not the other way around.. Ive never like either coach.
