#LSU now has three members of its coaching staff (Cain/Gibbs/Ochinko) who were members of the 2009 national championship team.

I think Nolan Cain and Micah Gibbs are both very sharp guys. Also, diehard #LSU guys, which I think is something Paul Mainieri values.

I don't want to be too quick to judge, but Mainieri's history of laziness and complacency has me worried. If you promote Cain, you have two pitching guys as your full time staff. You're relegating the offense to Gibbs, rising star or not, unproven.

This place melted like 3 mile island when Mainieri hired Grewe to coach the pitchers.

he's handcuffed on what he can do at this point. He almost had to promote these guys. Good coaches aren't switching teams at this point

It's baseball, there are plenty of hitting coaches that would have crawled to LSU for this job. It's a springboard to a head coaching job.

Mississippi State just hired our hitting coach for their head coaching vacancy. I'm pretty sure the amount of money LSU pays, he can get just about anybody he wants even if it is just a so-called lateral move. Also, the MLB and MiLB seasons are both over. I don't think he's stuck, but he can act like he is to avoid having to actually conduct a search or to promote his guys without them having to do what Will Davis and Blake Dean had to do.

Was Micah Gibbs on the 2009 Championship team?

I don't feel like Googling.

If Gibbs replaces Cain as 3rd base coach, I'm on board.

That's a fricking cop out. He could have hired a coach from any mid major conf on the country and did better. Instead he pulled another Javi fricking Sanchez move and hired a player with zero experience.

Is there any doubt that when he has the time he will still not make a change?

this will workout well

LSU baseball is the giant in college baseball we could have had anyone even late in the game. Paul has been extremely lazy before. I guess he felt like he won a title this year since he lost the eventual national champion.
