Hogg wasn’t a future anything at LSU. Let’s be honest.

I still don't like it as a concept because part of the draw of college was seeing players develop in your program from recruiting out of HS until graduation/being drafted.
But ultimately the portal has worked to our benefit far more than our detriment. In both baseball and football.

It’s only bad news if you want it to be.
Future this and future that, blah, blah, blah. Curiel is a future guy but unlike the others, he’s in the line up.

Our “future” starters who didn’t even make the playoff roster?

cannot disagree. Curiel got his as a freshman and Arambide got blessed by having weak competition to get in the line up. The other freshies just got stuck in the pipeline.

Some of these guys may have been told by Jay to look around based on his perception of their future in the program. That may not be the case with these guys but It’s not always 100% their decision to enter the portal.

You might be right. I just don't like these one year.Rentals!!
You need a kid to stay in the program. That builds leadership! Upperclass leadership. Like the 2023 seniors and junior which those types of players are missed

If you are a freshman infielder and they bring in an infielder from the portal and you know Milan has another year, it makes you nervous

Ruckert’s bat as a HS soph was light years ahead of where Ryan is now.
They don’t need Ryan at SS next year and he won’t hit enough to play 2B or 3B.

Hogg was never gonna be a starter

Each team is year to year. Get used to it even if you can’t stand it. LSU will never not have one of the most talented teams in the country as long as Jay Aloysius Johnson is at the helm

the family just did not trust CJJ to give him a fair chance next year

quote:gonna call BS on this. If anything Johnson gives every spot a chance and the best player will start. it’s why Kling, Neal, Kucherak hit the portal because they weren’t promised starting spots. It’s why an all SEC freshman selection Larson is on the bench.
one of my buddies knows Ryan's family an he said the family just did not trust CJJ to give him a fair chance next year and if he paid a transfer the transfer would get the nod.

The future SS most likely plays at another school right now.

Why does this bother a lot of you so much??
A lot of these kids just aren’t good enough, and may never be, good enough to play consistently here.
Every single year, it’s a two way process.
1 Coaches are evaluating where each player stands. They encourage some of these kids to move on. Others they want to keep.
2 Each player has to evaluate himself. Does he see a pathway to play regularly or not. If he doesn’t, he moves to a place he thinks he can.
I don’t know why this bothers people so much.

Hell of an athlete but is a a 5 o’clock hitter. Best of luck to him but I agree it was going to be tough sledding for him to find the lineup in BR
