I heard the situation. I was agreeing with you. You don't always swnd the runner from third on contact. Playing aggressively you would want to, but if its a hard hit ground ball to third then you're screwed. The infielder will always check the runner and then go first. On a slow roller, sure send him, but its still a gamble.
