I was listening to a baseball show on Sirius, can't remember which one, but they were talking about bunting runners over to try and get them in scoring position and actually scoring the runs and statistically you are better off having your batters swinging than bunting...

Count is 0-1...not likely to get a good pitch to hit anytime soon...runners on 1st and 2nd with 0 outs...might as well put the ball in play without getting a double play. I dont like giving up outs also...but Ochinko is next in the order and i like our chances of bringing in another run to make it 3-0. Every run is valuable and i think it was a good call.

The bunt is stupid in the first inning for a hitting team like LSU. If you're coaching to avoid the DP, you shouldn't be coaching. Why not just avoid baserunners altogther? Becuase there are a LOT more positive outcomes than negative ones from hitting away in the first damn inning.
