There are at least two walk on position players here for fall ball. Neither has batted, unlike previous fall scrimmages. Perhaps someone on the Coaches Committee can ask this question of the staff.

It seems fairly obvious. You only have so much top flight live pitching. You don’t waste it on guys who are never going to play.

Kendall Burnett, a freshman transfer from Pacific. He hit 85 during his first outing.

What pitchers have not thrown yet, I saw that Labas had thrown in one of the earlier scrimmages.

Four pitchers have yet to make an appearance this fall: Storz, Abendroth, Hill, and Gunter.

Dugas robbed Hughes of a double in right center field in the top of the fourth inning.

Blosser* 89mph

That's pretty encouraging for a walk-on LHP. Based on where he's from and his size, I'm pretty sure Blosser is dadof4grads grandson.

He's 6'6" 230ish I think. On the club team last year he struck out 36 guys in 26 innings. Obviously it's club baseball competition, but he's added about 5 mph of velocity compared to his HS numbers.

Also, it's encouraging that Hughes would have had a hit in 3 straight scrimmages if not for a great defensive play.

ETA: Just to address the general questions about Bianco and Dugas playing in the OF, Mainieri had mentioned it in his August media session that he wanted to find ways to get more RH bats into the mix between 1B and OF.

Adam, I do agree with you about the 2B position....Mainieri has always played a hitter at 2B even if his defense wasn't up to par with the other middle infielders.

But I have to disagree with you on your set positions. While I do think Cabrera has an OF spot I also think that Beloso has the 1B position.

Bianco seems to be ballin' so far...

Then again, I remember a few years ago when Danny Zardon absolutely destroyed the fall then wasn't even in the starting lineup and transferred in the spring so take the fall stats with a HUGE grain of salt. Since I have been following the fall, the stats don't seem to correlate very much with with the actual stats in the season.

I believe who ever is hitting the ball will be in the field. I hope PM sticks to his word of no position is guaranteed. When they are "talked up" so much it leads to much disappointment in the season. Let these kids earn and make their name. They SHOULD have to work for their spot.

I can speak for both walk on pitchers. I have been working with them on the club team.

Club ball obviously isn’t the same as D-1, but it’s much more competitive than people think. Look at the kid from FSU last year and there was a Georgia kid too. I also know some other sec schools send players down to their club team for rehab and whatnot. A&M has done this in the past

Beloso is going to start. I didn't include him because he's going to either 1B or DH depending on how the rest of the lineup shapes up.

YIKES! Oil Can Burnett needs to pick it up. Looks like he came into fall in poor shape given his drop in velocity.
