I’m all for the pageantry but good lord those uniforms look hot. How much weight do you lose during a game? Have they ever considered different uniforms for the really hot games?

We’re planning on purple and gold assless chaps with fishnet half shirts this season. Should be nice and breezy.

Yeah. I'm sure there will be hurt feelings.

If you can get the Golden Girls to do this also, then you have a deal.

And maybe the 2-3 decent looking flag girls...

I don't think this board is full of current band members, if any.

They were hot AF back in the 80’s. The jackets were really heavy.

In my day, 90-91 the band uniforms were full on wool and polyester blend and they were hot as shite. Plus we had to dry clean them so they always smelled like chemicals

Played trumpet in Tigerband in the mid-to-late-80s. Uniforms are similar, but the big thing is that they are MADE OF WOOL! They are effing HOT AS HELL even in November. As for weight loss during a game, there were two breast pockets in our uniforms back then and each one of mine carried a fifth of Johnnie Walker Red. (The band never gets checked at the gates and the pockets were the perfect size.) So - however much two fifths of Johnnie Red weighed is how much weight I lost during a game.

Weight was lost in practice

We played at Florida at Florida in early October in 1990 and it was a pep band trip. These MFers threw beer on us going INTO the Stadium. So we had to sit there in the Gainesville heat soaked with shitty beer and we got beat 34-8

The uniforms are thick wool. Several layers overlapping when you count the pants, which are really basically coveralls and then the jacket over the top of that. It's heavy and very very hot.

I have long said that the gear sponsors for schools like Nike, Under Armour, and Adidas need to step up and remodel schools' band uniforms with modern fabrics and clothing tech that they use for athletic uniforms.

ETA: Imagine going to a game as a fan and wearing straight up winter ski gear. Then imagine blowing the entire capacity of your lungs out over and over the whole time Tiger Band is playing a song. Now you kinda know what it feels like.

They changed the uniform to a lighter material two years ago. They said they would look the same, but don’t. They look crappy now.

Looks aside, lighter material makes a ton of sense. Good for them. The wool uniforms (everywhere) need to go.

LOL
87-90 here. Looking back, I don't know how we did it. If it wasn't broiling hot, it was cold and rainy. They didn't clear the stadium for lightning back then. I remember being absolutely soaked and the drum-line playing the Hawaii 5-O intro with rain coming in sideways. Fun times. :-)

By the third game of the season, the broke dicks that didn’t pay to get their uniforms cleaned were pretty ripe. For anyone that’s worked in a plant, imagine heavyweight FRC’s.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Texas’ band wearing matching polos and shorts for the LSU game in Austin. They’ve done it before for early season games when it’s really hot.

That's terrible. I'm glad LSU doesn't do that middle school bs.

I’m not a fan of the shorts, but the band does need an alternate uniform of some sort. I’ve seen the Golden Girls and color guard in uniforms other than what they wear to football games.
