They were going nowhere fast and offered RR.

Saban literally saved em

I have never heard of Sioux Falls football where he was 67-3 so I'm throwing that out right away. At Fresno State, he was 12-6 which is meh. His claim to fame was a short stint at Washington where he put together a fantastic 25-3 record

And LSU fans bitch about BK’s bona fides

Sure, decades before they were significant with Bear Bryant and Stallings.

You are dismissive of Bear when his shadow was so great it took the majoriry of Saban's meteoric career to get out of it at Alabama. It'll probably never be repeated. So yeah, still not agreeing with you that Alabama was some nothing program before Saban arrived.

Hell, you'd have a stronger argument starting that LSU was irrelevant prior to Saban.

And Dreamland. There was a Dreamland in Mobile when we lived in Pensacola and I got hooked on it. (Mainly the vinegar based sauce)

saban was other worldly in regards to college football, and there are a handful... two handfuls... he could easily have matched his Tuscaloosa success. The new coach simply isn't nick saban.

Bama was cascading towards irrelevance when they hired Saban and were very lucky he bombed in Miami.

Bama still has the Red Elephant Club, the non-university affiliated player funding organization perfected by Saban.

So maybe you just have to have the Want and the RTWFY to win.

I dislike Bama as much as any LSU fan, but this is factually just not true.

Even before Saban, they were one of the most successful programs in CFB history.

Their rough spot between Stallings and Saban was better than LSUs rough spot between Arnsparger and DiNardo/Saban

Bear got there in 1958 and won 6 championships. Saban got there in 2017 and won 6 championships. Between them, they've won 1.

They are a coach driven program. And those two coaches were successful with other programs.

None of the others were successful anywhere else. Perkins, Curry, Franccione, DuBose, Shula, and whichever one I missed...marginal.

Or maybe he did and just happily jumped on the payday regardless.

He has nothing to lose. He's getting a huge payday with a buyout when they fire him, and he will have west coast and midwest schools lining up to hire him afterwards.

That makes it seem like you are right - that they can’t win without a superstar coach. But the reality is very different. Bear wrapped up in 1982, and Saban took over after the 2007 season, not 2017. So it was only 25 years in between and they won a national championship during that drought.

New Mexico is towards the bottom but never ranks at the bottom. Usually Mississippi and sometimes your tossups of Arkansas Louisiana and West Virginia
