Perk is a physical specimen, no doubt. But it's been hard to find the right spot for him since his breakout freshman year.

I've suspected over the last two years that they were always trying to shoehorn him in on the defense to replicate his first year's performance - often to the detriment of the rest of the defense.

It sucks for him to be injured, sucks even more that being a tweener makes it so hard to find a good spot for him to be consistently successful. That said, I agree that taking him out of the equation at this point could have as many positives as negatives - maybe more, if it lets the rest of the defense come together and gel as a unit without trying to fit Perkins in somewhere.

For perspective, the NFL and CFB is historically littered with teams that have outstanding "players" but meh "teams" - the most recent version I can recall is the aTm dream team that they bought a few years back under Jimbo that went nowhere fast.

Conversely, there are also teams that always seem to reload instead of rebuild, and make the best use of the players they DO have.

Post Perkins, I'm hoping that Baker takes that second path.
