It's really as simple as that. Nuss missed so many open receivers when running that he usually hits. He made some bad reads and forced the ball when he had dump offs to RB. Interceptions and missed FG killed us. Couple of big drops also.Regardless of how bad the running game was.Regardless of how well Reed played we still could have won the game if Nuss plays his usual game. Hopefully he will atone next week and the defense has 2 weeks to prepare for Milroe. Not as worried about that.

Agreed- very hard to overcome gifting them the ball in great field position 3 times. It’s more than just giving them the ball it’s also killing your own scoring opportunities. It’s a huge double whammy that far exceeds any other contributing factors.

Agreed. I think that Joe and Jayden both had turning points in their first year starting that lead to phenomenal second years. The question is whether this will be Nuss’ moment where he grows from it or if he repeats his mistakes in the future.

Throw it 60 times a game and bad decisions and interception happen. We had zero run game. Zero.

Regarding his first interception, Nuss needs to realize when you’re up 17-7 , no need to make a play -just throw the ball away

Its as simple as that. I wish everyone just realizes Nuss messed this game up himself. Stop blaming it on the run game. Yes our coordinator isnt the best..but when you run an offense out of shotgun formation running RPO and Zone reads and your QB is 0.1% a run threat, YOU WONT HAVE A RUN GAME.

Its the same reason Mike Denbrock got a gig at ND and they were expecting JD led offensive numbers. This offense moves if the QB at the reigns moves! If JD is our QB this year we’re undefeated. We have 2 loses because our QB wont move his legs and be discipline

I'm not in favor of blaming 20 year old kids.

If you thought Nuss wasn't going to lose us a game or 2 each year for various reasons, you are not clear on what's going on.

With that said, there were lots of reasons we lost the game.
Missed 3 FG
Mistakes in passing game
Couldn't stop their run

Nuss wasn't good in Ole Miss game either except for last 2 min.

Said the same in another thread and got downvoted. I agree. Nuss played bad but why we keep running am RPO when our QB poses zero running threat baffles me.

So are you saying we are supposed to keep winning games despite poor qb play?

if Nuss plays his usual game

he averages 23/44 for 315 yards in SEC games this year
he went 25/50 for 405 yards.

he averages 1.75 TD and 1.5 Int per SEC game
he threw 2 TDs and 3 picks.

this game wasn't very far off from his average game.
when and where he threw the picks is what killed him.

Burrow and JD5 were in different stratosphere as Nuss, and they both didn't mind picking up yards with their legs.

Not to insult Nuss, but if LSU has to get out of this next year mentality. Hopefully Nuss figures it out this year and regardless, he should he competing for this job if he chooses to return next year.

Period.

because the quarterback does not have to ever run the ball with an RPO.

the run option is the RB.
the pass option is him throwing it.

now if we were running the Read-Option with Nuss, you'd have a complaint.

"You're never as good as your best and never as bad as your worst"

That was Nuss at his worst, Nuss at his best was the last 2 drives of Ole Miss. If he hangs out in the middle there I think we have a legit shot of running the table.

LSU barely runs read options and RPOs have nothing to do with a quarterback's running ability.

LSU simply sucks at run blocking and that's compounded by a lack of vision and experience at the running back position.

People see the yards he averages and overvalue that when he throws 50x per game. He has been an average QB this year. People remember the last drive of the Ole Miss game but fail to recognize that he played a really poor game that game too. If LSU loses against Ole Miss, the faithful is calling for Hurley to play.
