In addition to its recruiting class, it looks like LSU finally will get some long-anticipated help at the wide receiver position from a familiar name.
Avery Johnson (Pompano Beach, Fla./Blanche Ely), a wide receiver signee with the Tigers' 2012 class, confirmed Tuesday that he has been cleared to enroll at LSU by the NCAA Clearinghouse after failing to qualify in August. Johnson, the younger brother of former LSU star Patrick Peterson, had been committed to LSU since 2010 -- when he was a junior in high school. But he didn't meet the test scores needed to enroll for the 2012 season.
Johnson instead has spent his season at Hargrave Military Academy -- an option not unfamiliar to LSU players, including defensive tackle Ego Ferguson and former running back Keiland Williams.
Johnson said he'll be enrolled in January at LSU, in time for the start of the Tigers' offseason program.

Know this has likely been asked before, but what recruiting class is he counted toward--the 2012 or the class that will be signed in Feb. of 2013?

January enrollees can be back counted in the empty 2012 slots.

So is he going to be a freshman next year or a sophomore? Not sure what Hargrove Military Academy is??
I am talking Fall 2013 football season, not when he enrolls in January for Spring football.

He'll be a freshman. Keiland Williams did this same exact thing.

And will he still have the full 5 years to play 4?

Not positive about that one, I doubt we'd RS him anyway. But I don't think that the NCAA can count a season against him when he wasn't even on the team.

This is kind of what I was thinking too.
Thanks for the info!

This is awesome. A receiver with Patrick Peterson's DNA cant do anything but help this class. We need a true burner on the outside and I hope Avery can present that.
The Receiving core next year looks sick with Landry, Boone, ODB3, Wright, Avery Johnson, Quantavius Leslie, Travin Dural and Nic Jacobs
Hill, Ware, Ford, Hilliard and Blue all coming back
Mett building off the end of the season
This offense could be POTENT next season!!

Nothings been mentioned besides he missed the last game for violating team rules. Its probably nothing if we haven't heard anything by now.
He looked good when he's been thrown to this year. Mett missed a beautiful touchdown pass to him during the a&m game. I think he becomes a bigger target next year. Incoming freshman Desean Smith looks to be quite the pass catcher though and has good size to come in and get immediate playing time

I don't see that kind of speed in his videos. Hopefully he has his brother's hands.
