Agreed. I like the redshirt one year for undergrad, unrestricted for graduates. I don’t think the school should have any say in where the kid can or can’t go however.

Disagree. If someone wants to pay a kids millions of dollars, let them waste their money. I think companies are wising up to dropping big dollars on unproven kids.

Now if you want to somehow figure out a way to stop agents from f’ing it all up, I’m all ears.

That changes nothing. People blame the portal...but it's not the portal. It's the transfer rule that's the problem.

And college coaches can force a kid to look elsewhere if he isn’t producing. A scholarship is nothing more than a 1 year contract.

Professionals get paid millions to sign a contract. College is just like your job, it’s at will.

College football talking about ethics is funny

Regardless, the SEC needs to block inter-conference transfers without sitting out.

All P5 conferences should do that IMO.

This. The portal is a method of free agency. It should work exactly like professional free agency, with specified windows for movement in, recruiting, and movement out. The current free-for-all setup is absolutely ridiculous.

There should be a requirement to stay one full year in the program you originally sign with outside of coaching changes (including your position coach).

I also believe that conferences should block 1 time waivers in-conference. That is a fricking tampering nightmare that no one is keeping up with or enforcing rules on. That, or any school that suspects tampering should be able to instigate a conference review that forces the player to sit until cleared. That essentially makes in-conference transfers sit for at least part of a season.

For better or worse, college sports has now entered into the realm of unfettered free agency.

It won’t be long before you realize that you no longer cheer for young athletes with whom you share a common experience and a regional camaraderie. You cheer for a corporate logo.

Sports scholarships are a 1 year contract. That is how the system is set up. So coaches always had the option of pulling a scholarship from a player after 1 year. But the player had no option other than to transfer and lose a year of eligibility in the process. And potentially be denied a landing spot by that same coach in the past (when transferring within the SEC in the past, for instance).

The pendulum has swung a bit now. But really not that far to the other side yet. I think there will be some tweaking going forward but the previous system was skewed much too far in favor if the institution, in my opinion.

They have to go back to sitting out a year unless you graduated.

college football is being destroyed right before our eyes.

The NCAA let the genie out of the bottle, but they needs to find a way to shove it back in, and quick.

You mean like our new coach?

Or USC's new coach?

Just seems really "get off my lawn" to crack on transfers in a world where coaches do what they do.

Especially when this is purely an argument about depth.

Eh...college doesn't have long-term relationships with players. Traditionally you get 5 years at most and one of those years involves no playing. A lot of times you get 1-2 years of really cheering a guy on and then he leaves. It's always been cheering for a logo more than an individual.
