You're talking about the transfer portal.
With the transfer portal, you cannot have NIL or it will destroy the game. It already is ripping at the seems. They are tied together at the hip.
You literally go from teams with multi year players to mercenaries. The universities will put a stop to this soon enough.
NIL was meant for a specific purpose which has already been bastardized. Its is totally not sustainable just from an economic perspective.

We'll look back in 5 years and know that it was ruined the moment NIL wasn't regulated.
It is hardly about anything having to do with Name, Image, and Likeness. It's here's money come play for us.
What's happening in Miami basketball currently will be the norm now. Guys wanting more money than the deal they agreed to or their leaving.

Too late
It’s already happened
It’s already happened

It is going to ruin team chemistry. The intent of NIL was to reward players for past performance, but the huge use of it now is a recruiting tool. It's very easy to look at the past recruiting list to see the fairly large percentage of top rank players that don't pan out. How are the veteran starters going to get along with an over rated incoming freshman with a huge NIL deal, when they are getting peanuts.

the split second the aggies win something of note, it is ruined.

some of us tried to warn everyone but we got called "old school" theres no way to regulate it unless the IRS gets involved... maybe thats what some wanted... more gov overreach..

It’ll keep players staying longer potentially Atleast

I think the one time free transfer rules is making NIL seem 10 times worse than it would be without that.
This.
Remove free transfer rule.

Because you don’t give immature teenagers millions of dollars when they haven’t proven a thing. Plus kids that age have no idea how to manage money like that.
I don’t disagree, but if you believe these kids and their families haven’t been getting paid under the table for years now then you haven’t been paying attention. The money has been there all along, it’s just coming out in the open.

It’s a recipe for disaster and college football will be absolutely ruined within 5 years or less. If you think NIL is better for college football then I guess you are just a fool. We can’t help you.
Certainly it’s hurting the game, but what has hurt the fans the most is television. It controls the sport. It funds all of these huge coach’s salaries. It funds the Taj Majals. It is the entity that destroyed many of our traditions. It has added an hour or more to each game, It controls everything. That started the downfall. At least for ticket holders.
When there’s that much money involved the players are bound to get theirs one way or another. Pretending it’s amateur athletics for everyone but the players is idiotic. I don’t have the answer, but it isn’t to go back and pretend a scholarship compensates the players fairly because the free market says otherwise.

Pretty much all competitive leagues understand that parity is necessary to keep the sport alive. Free agency can help an NFL team turn it around in just one off-season - you are only one year away from the playoffs. But, without regulation you’re going to have Bama cherry-pick GA Tech’s best player every year (Gibbs) so Tech, Vandy, Miss State might all become feeder schools.

Already has ruined college football. It’s now the minor league of the NFL with paid mercenaries. Although there are a few spotty areas where actual students are on the school football teams such as Ivy League.

Coupled with the transfer portal, it already has.

All the schools have to do is enforce regular student academic standards and most of the players would never sniff a college football field. NIL would die on the vine, and the NFL can go frick themselves.

It's already ruined college football as we know it, CFB will become more like the NBA where the richest franchises amass all the talent.
What kind of sport do you think CFB has always been?
CFB is the premier "where the rich amass all the talent and money" sport in the US

The intent of NIL was to relieve the pressure of the NCAA having to cover up what was already rampant in college football.
No there wasn't really "intent" on NIL. The Supreme Court bitch slapped the NCAA on this issue and the NCAA had no choice.

quote:A regular student may have proven they have talent with their ACT scores & testing out of classes, but they can't just step out of high school and start practicing engineering and raking in a paycheck. They have to be certified.
They may have not proven a thing at the college level but they have proven they have talent. I get most of these kids are natural athletes but in order to be a top recruit you have to work to get there also and they have proven they are better than their peers.
quote:Their "certification" was biding their time for 3 years in college & proving themselves on the field, while receiving scholarships, room and board, and stipends - just as a regular student has to bide their time for 4 years, prove their talent while receiving scholarships, room and board, and stipends.
How is that different than the NFL giving a college athlete millions of dollars when they haven’t proven they can play at the NFL level?
And the usual response is, "the athletes make more money for the university than the regular students". But plenty of regular students graduate, start companies, and actually give back to the university & athletics.
Most of these athletes (besides Mathieu & few others) go on to the NFL, and never give back to the university.
Imo, if you want to support NIL, they shouldn't be called "student" athletes. Regular students don't get paid $3 M, a house and a car for their "talents" while in school.
CFB is now a minor league with free agency and no cap. And if that's the case, shite might as well change the names, the colors, the mascots, move the venues off campus.
If these guys are going to be receiving 2nd round draft pick money for their "talents", there's no need to be walking the same campus as the students when they're there for completely different reasons.
In the famous words of Cardale Jones "We ain't here to play school"
