At what point do you run exclusively out of the I formation and save your elite defense

Their breath? Or at least run a lot more of it.

Honestly, you can stall out Ole Miss on the run game alone with this defense.

The game is cyclical, and we will come back to it eventually. BK has to make a run this year.

I'd love to see some traditional I-formation iso runs. It's obvious our o-line isn't good enough for zone read runs out of the shotgun.

The OL isn’t great but I don’t think it’s all on them or as bad as tRant makes them out to be.

Durham is injured and looks like he’s making the decision to bounce outside before the ball is even snapped. Love
CD, but that’s how things look at times.

JJ was running north and south on Saturday night and averaged over 5ypc

Yeah I get it, it’s SELU but he had the best runs of the night and seemed to bring a spark to the running game.

The good news is, they only need a semi decent running game to get the deep passing attack up and rolling. If they can average over 3.5ypc against Ole Miss, they’ll win.

If what we saw against SELA doesnt show up against OM, its time to throw shite at the wall until it sticks.

I think we have to come to the realization of LSU being a different type of offense than we're used to. No more 1500 yard RBs. We're now "keep them honest with short runs and complete intermediate routes to move the ball".

Not pretty, or what we're used to but "win baby win".

Nuss is really good at play action, and I believe this would help the OL a lot to go under center more. A fullback can hide OL deficiencies by cleaning up their mistakes.

I don't want us to run exclusively out of any set. Next question?

Y'all do realize the I formation tightens things up and requires even better blocking out of your o-line to have a successful run game, right?

Hey man, this is unironically a team that Les would have made a legitimate run with.

From the guard play so far what makes you think we can run effectively out of the I?

Instead of zero yards we might get 2.

The best running play we have right now is QB sneak behind Moore. We can get almost 2 yards with that.

no matter how you want to rationalize/romanticize it, and whether or not it will actually be an effective strategy that won't do the exact opposite of what you think it will do, you don't do it in the middle of the season

the problem is right there in your own words

Does LSU have a fullback?

Being in the I with the tight formations does lend itself to some jet which is an incredible play for Brown and Thomas. Once you've run that twice on film....they have to respect it and power hits quite nice.

Pyburn and Sharp can both play that position.

What a difference a decade has made in our thinking.

some HB iso, toss dive, and HB powers(yes, like miles ran, lol) would be a nice added touch.

Against OM they just may work.

our OL and QB are not made for this offense. a classic pro style under center for half the snaps with play action pass off of that is more suited to this. get a downhill run game going even if we have to pass some first. you get great play action under center. use gun or pistol as needed. To run from the gun they need to respect your pass game first and nobody has all year long. just like to pass from under center they have to fear the run.

nobody is saying miles was some creative genius. far from it. we know his failures and stubborness. but MUCH of what he did offensively COULD help us immensely right now. some basic downhill runs which helps the RB get going and see holes/gaps and PA passes.

i'd like to see if we can run some counter leads, counter traps and counter treys.

This is true, but you can’t just throw a switch and get this. It takes months, maybe years, of practice to be good at this.

You know we agree on a lot. It's just a little ironic that people were saying things like "I hope I never see another I formation again" in 2015, to wondering if we can run it now. 2010 broke Les to a degree, and 2011 (outside of 1-9-2012) cemented his resolve to always run that pro-style QB set regardless of who we had.

But I do know that with Les, if it was 3rd and 1, we were getting a first down 9 out of 10 times or better.
