Anybody find it strange that just about every media outlet coast to coast is discussing this in one form or another except ESPN. It got about 4 seconds of coverage on CFL Tuesday afternoon, but that was just about the GoFundMe campaign. Then Tuesday night, Herbstreit wanted to talk about it, and Rece Davis (Alabama alum) shut him down. The only article on ESPN I've seen related was about Orgeron wanting to change the rule as if he's whining about what happened.
I'm telling y'all, if there is collusion between Alabama and the SEC, ESPN is also in on it. Pay attention to the crud they put out, lauding Alabama week in and week out, year round. Their role is to fuel the bias that helps keep Alabama on top, which they perceive as a ratings boost for themselves. Here's just a sample:

Not being an arse to you, EasterEgg, but ask yourself a few questions:

1) What benefit does ESPN get out of defending a Tier 2 program like LSU?
2) ESPN will not be broadcasting the LSU/Bama game. Helping LSU in this game does not help them at all.
3) You nailed one important aspect of all of this: one of the key players in pushing media narrative for the company that owns the vast majority of the sport and the playoff rights, is a Bama alum.

Of course they know it is BS. Just like they know UGA was screwed last year with many blatant bad calls in the NCG to give Bama the win. They don't care. They make $$$ by promoting the Tier 1 teams.

5 year sentence at least. Stripped of all Saban era titles. Saban banned from NCAA permanently. Current AD and BOS banned permanently. All football facilities repurposed permanently. Any individual records deracinated. All officials SEC or otherwise extant and past sanctioned./fired. All football monies given to student scholarships. REC exposed for what it is. It’s donors names published.

That should about do it.

Not saying any of the media, ESPN included, are trying to or wants to defend LSU. I think much of what is being written is alluding to the Alabama bias or perceived bias. Any mention of LSU is just happenstance because LSU is just the latest patsy. I'm merely pointing out that many outlets are discussing the topic whereas ESPN is staying silent. I won't be the least bit surprised when College Gameday gives little to no attention to the topic. I bet Herbsreit already got his memo: "don't rock the boat."

$aban is just the coach and does his job quite well. He sticks up for his guys, and I respect that. It's the behind-the-scenes stuff that he may not be aware of that's a bit curious.

Do you think your parents found you under a cabbage leaf? You honestly think that a control freak automaton like Nicholas Saban would not direct, let along not know, about the crookeration of his entire program? Right. Still laughing...

Remember when Steve Shaw campaigned to have "his" officials referee the 2011 National Championship game?

Shaw wants SEC officials for BCS championship

quote:

As you might expect, Shaw was hoping one of his crews would get the chance to work Alabama-LSU Part Deux. "No. 1, because we've had a team in the national championship game for a number of years, we've been shut out of working that game," Shaw said. The last time an SEC crew worked the BCS championship, USC destroyed Oklahoma 55-19 in the 2005 Orange Bowl. Shaw was the referee. "And then," Shaw said, "with our teams playing in (this game), I felt like, if they'd have polled the coaches, they'd have said we'd love to have the SEC work it." How often do bowl games turn out to be sloppy affairs?

The toughest call of this entire season might have been the wildcat pass LSU safety Eric Reid wrestled away from Alabama tight end Michael Williams on the way down at the goal line Nov. 5 in Tuscaloosa. The officials on the field ruled it an interception, and the replay official agreed. Shaw said he still gets emails and phone calls about that play.

He wants sympathy when he has to take phone calls when the occasional call correctly goes our way? Bish, please.

From a Vol Message Board

quote:

This was compiled by Stat on TOS. Very Interesting.....

From 2007-2015: 9 years 121 games 8114 offensive snaps

55 holding penalties

37 holding penalties against OL or 1 every 3.3 games.

OL is flagged for holding every 219 snaps.

Alabama had zero holding penalties during 65% of their games.

Only2 times during 121 games was Alabama flagged for holding while trailing on the scoreboard.

During 78 conference games, their OL was flagged for holding 19 times (1 every 4.1 gms).

During their remaining 43 games, 18 times (1 every 2.4 gms).

Interesting Breakdown:
9 games vs. Auburn ................. 2 holding penalties against OL.
6 games vs. Florida .................. 1
4 games vs. Georgia ................ 0
10 games vs. LSU .................... 3
9 games vs. Tennessee............ 1
9 games vs. Ole Miss ............... 2
9 games vs. Arkansas .............. 6

I see a ton of examples where penalties should have been called on Bama but weren't...what about penalties called on teams they're playing that are nothing close to a penalty?

You know that had to almost kill Tom Ritter to make that call against Alabama

It's time to come to terms with it, Bama has a better football program than LSU and this has been the case since forever.

I haven't seen anyone question the fact that bama has a better football program than LSU in this thread. shite, bama has a better football program than damn near any other school in college football.

But that's not what this thread and topic is about. It's about the bama bias that exists in college football these days. If you don't see how they continually get calls go their way during critical times of ball games, or non-calls during critical times of ball games, whatever benefits bama, you're just refusing to see it.

And the annoying thing about it is, since bama does have a better football program than most any other program in college football, it's mind-boggling that they would continue to receive all these blatantly bad calls.

I'd bet that 99% of everyone "complaining" in this thread would be fine if their team lost a game to bama as long as the game was a clean, well officiated contest. But nobody in this thread is happy about losing games to a team that always gets the benefit of the doubt with questionable calls.

And this kind of shite has gone on way too long.

Bama bias isn't limited to Bama games. There have been multiple instances where Bama failed to take care of business and needed a key game to go their way to get back in the title hunt.

LINK
DATE: November 18, 2011
GAME: Oklahoma State at Iowa State
DESC: All LSU fans remember this one. The night LSU was robbed of the greatest season in CFB history. Quinn Sharp's kick was clearly good.

LINK
DATE: November 17, 2012
GAME: Stanford at Oregon
DESC: Zach Ertz TD ruled incomplete on the field gets reviewed. Replay shows no conclusive evidence of TD. Call gets overturned. Game goes to OT, where Oregon loses. Bama jumps back into the top 2.

LINK
DATE: December 2, 2017
GAME: Ohio State vs. Wisconsin (Big 10 Championship)
DESC: On this play, 2 Wisconsin WRs get absolutely mauled by 2 Ohio State DBs. Somehow, no flag gets thrown. Wisconsin's loss allows Bama, who got blown out in their final regular season game and missed the SECCG, back into the top 4.

We need to stop complaining and beat them.

They are arrogant and why shouldn't they be. They hit us hard and we need to hit them harder. We want respect? Beat their arse.

I made this during the 2011 season, but the message seems appropriate in today's climate as well. This is a pic of Spencer Ware being "berated" by the ref (is that Penn Wagers?) for "celebrating" after a big play--the total of his "celebration" is depicted in the photo (he's flexing and yelling incoherently). As I recall, ref told him something along the lines of "if you do that again, I'll flag you."

Watching more older games and spotted this one from 2014. LSU punts, official on the ball rules it downed at the 1. He's overruled by the official at the pylon who calls it a touchback.

Yeah, just flat out unexplainable.

And I know this doesn’t necessarily fall in this thread, but the targeting review by same officials in the early game, OM vs AU, needs to be shown.

It was more violent than the shot to the TN QB. And it was committed by a backup safety for AU, b/c starter was already out injured. It was PI, that was never called, and helmet to earhole.

Had to be the same reviewers that reviewed White’s play, yet kid was mysteriously not ejected.

You would almost think these review officials have a vested interest in the outcomes of the games, and might avoid calls that could affect possible upsets, hurting bowl purses and upcoming matchups within the conference.

Even though Wilson was crown of helmet on defenseless QB during a throwing motion that broke a bone that is the inferior border of the neck, the other AU violation was even more egregious, IMO.

It should be shown and mentioned when referencing the White call.
