I believe they recruited Efton with the thought he is a one and done. I may be wrong in this. I also know the way he has played so far doesn’t make it seem like he will be, but sometimes when these guys expect to be one and done they go no matter how they played in that one season.
Somebody needs to find out if Tim Duncan wants to help a kid out. Efton has good feet so footwork can be learned. Not bad for this level already but he's not physically strong enough to execute consistently yet. Anybody else remember how Duncan was called soft at Wake and the beginning of his NBA career?
Duncan made fundamentals/footwork that could be seen as finesse into power moves through flawless execution. Efton has some of the same tools as Timmy. Wish we could get him to work with the kid some.
And NO mensas, I'm not saying Reid will turn into Tim Duncan!

Fudge has had a lot of buzz from draft experts the past couple of weeks. As raw a player as he is, his defensive potential is ridiculous.
Do what? Sauces on that please.

I understand completely what you are saying. Efton does have good skills and could grow there and also gain strength. The other great player he reminds me of is Kareem (and no, I'm not saying he'll turn into Kareem either )

1. Are you an NBA caliber athlete?

No? Then you probably aren't a 1 & done (Efton/Naz/Watford).

2. To a lesser extent, do you have an elite skill(s)?

Big men are hard to rate in high school because sheer size lends to domination, due to the overall lack of big men in high school.

I don't disagree. But it's not up to the coaches, me or you to decide. If a player wants to enter the draft after one season, even if it is VERY unlikely he will be drafted, there is nothing anyone can do. Some guys decide before they even step foot on a college campus they are leaving after one season. Thankfully, it doesn't appear Reid is of that mindset

Keep in mind we basically only returned 1-1.5 starter (0.5 for Wilkinson) from last year in Days and look where we are right now. Roster turnover in basketball is just going to be a thing moving forward, especially for the good teams.

You should feel pretty good if all we lost was Pinson, Days and Eason from this team (plus maybe some end of bench guy[s]). Returning Reid, Miller, Murray, Gaines, Wilkinson, Fudge and Williams is an extremely good core group of guys to add a transfer or two with an a 5-star like Julian Phillips to. Not even adding any transfers to that you're looking at this kind of rotation:

Reid
Phillips
Wilkinson
Murray
Miller
+
Fudge
Williams
Gaines

Ive seen Fudge in 2 mock drafts since the new year.

Just amateur basketball draft guys though, mainly.

This is where NIL comes into play. Pony up and get this man another season. Match oversea/developmental league money and he likely stays. I’m becoming a bigger basketball fan than football fan.

Yeah fudge isnt going anywhere after this year but he is a FREAK athlete for a guy his size, just has no vision offensively right now other than shoot occasional corner 3, drive to bucket for slam or put back. He is really rough finishing around the rim for now. I'd love to see his non dunk rim shot %, it's gotta be like 20-30%

With a 7 foot+ wingspan, the ability to jump out the gym...I think he could be similar to Tyrus Thomas in a way. He might not be going out blocking 3+ shots a game like Thomas did, but Thomas redshirted his first year here then absolutely exploded his 2nd year. I think Fudge could explode next year if he can figure things out on the offensive end a little. He doesnt need much of an offensive game but even with a little one there he would get noticed by a lot of NBA scouts.

Tyrus measured 6'8.25" in shoes at combine with a 7'3 wingspan, 34" standing vertical and 39.5" max vertical. Fudge isn't very far off from that mold.

Im just curious here, but how come Days and Pinson don’t get a 5th year due to covid?

Is that only for football? Im genuinely curious.

Im not pretending it's up to me or the coaches or anyone but the player.

Just that is it fairly easy to see what these guys are. And the NBA draft process lends itself to setting these guys straight and getting them back to school. LSU has benefitted from this, despite guys thinking they were ready for the league.

Listed in Jonathan Wasserman's top 50 prospects last week:

quote:

Thinking long term about Fudge

Fudge looks too far away offensively to generate serious first-round interest in 2022. But with 6'8" size and elite stock rates for a wing (5.4 steal percentage, 5.6 block percentage), plus an outstanding 13.2 offensive rebounding percentage, Fudge has an intriguing athletic and defensive profile. He could be worth reaching on for a team that sees a defensive specialist and energizer with the potential to improve his ball skill and shooting.

Chad Ford on Fudge
quote:

Alex Fudge looks like the second coming of Matisse Thybulle

4.9% steal rate
5.5% block rate

This block was a CRAZY athletic defensive play.

Offense is very shaky, but he could be an All-NBA defender someday.

Still just 18 years old.

Rookie Scale hasn't updated their site to reflect it yet, but they just put this out last week regarding their consensus board (Consensus input sources include ESPN, The Athletic, The Stepien, Bleacher Report, Sports Illustrated, Tankathon, Chad Ford, Tankathon, For the Win, Yahoo, Fox, CBS, Rookie Wire, and dozens of other boards/mocks from #DraftTwitter and other scouting outlets.)

Tari Eason (LSU)
Blake Wesley (Notre Dame)
Dereon Seabron (NC State)
Alex Fudge (LSU)
Trevion Williams (Purdue)

I'm flabbergasted! The ONLY thing I could see at this point is a Scout's opinion that his defense/length equal the offense/pure scoring potential of Primo from Bama who was a total surprise going to the Spurs last year.
Highly doubt this. I can't believe I've tried to find justification for it - that's just silly.
Share one of those mocks with me please.

hopefully him along with Miller coming back can help relieve some of our 3 point shooting woes. Ree LOVES to shoot the 3. He's like a skinny Darius Days replacement.

Ree's stats this year at Oak Hill

103 of Ree's 144 shots this season have come from 3...and he's 46.6% from 3

Different poster filled me in on this. The lack of an Offensive game besides dunks held me back.
Obviously, there ARE Scouts who believe his defense/length measure up to Primo's offensive potential!
I did/do agree with below, though.

No true point guard next year is only concern . I know we’re looking for one in portal.

If Gaines keeps improving he could possibly be this guy. He is already there defensively and while still inconsistent on offense he is lightyears better this year than last year.
