He still has a child's mindset in that he saw what Kyle Pitts did at UF and thinks he'll get coached up the same way. I hate it because if the idiot had just stayed here, he'd be a 1000 yard TE and br going in the first round in 2 years. Now it might take him 3 years and he probably won't go until round 3 because UF doesn't have a decent passer on roster
Bad mentoring/parenting which only adds to the mental fog.

Frankly it's still a mystery to most people that he committed to LSU originally. This has to be one of the stranger situations of all recruiting.

Guy gets more production as a true freshman in 8 games (with mostly a true freshman QB too)....more productive than OJ Howards freshman and sophomore years in only 8 games. Yet quits midyear and transfers. Baffling

He will end up with a waiver.

I highly doubt it. I’m betting the SEC will block waivers in-conference no matter what the NCAA does. If it happens, it will be because of Gilbert’s shitshow and all the attention it got, especially the rumors of tampering by two fellow conference teams.

Apparently he didn’t want to play or be close to home.

Gilbert reached out to Clemson after entering the portal and Dabo told him to kick rocks. The 247 football podcast covered this before the playoffs with Clemson’s lead mod. She said she was shocked that Dabo wouldn’t consider making an exception to his no transfers rule, but he didn’t.

I'd expect a waiver request based on CV19 and compassionate reasons for mental health to be nearer to his family support structure or environment (BS or not) more conducive to his particular needs.

The whole point of the one-time waiver (if they finally get around to permanently passing it) from the NCAA’s point of view is the abuse of the system and how overwhelmed it has become with requests. I don’t think they will be granting special waivers anymore.

Even if the NCAA does, if the SEC says they won’t allow a waiver in-conference, then it doesn’t matter. He still sits. The conferences can override a ruling like that. They all chose to allow open transfers last year because of COVID, but Herb Vincent weighing in on this transfer tells me that the SEC is done playing ball on this issue.

It’s absolutely mind boggling Gilbert would give up having Brennan potentially throw to him in 2021. Brennan was absolutely on fire the first several games of the season in 2020 from a passing perspective. Mullen must have really sold him a complete BS bill of goods with over-hyping how he made Pitts what he is.

This transfer decision could send Gilbert out of the first round with absolutely no one on the UF roster capable of producing Trask like numbers, even with a waiver granted for 2021.

He'll opt out again and or enter the transfer portal because lack of playing time and or his body will start hurting again! Kid needs to grow up and mature real soon. God has given him special athletic ability and he needs to realize this and take advantage of this.

That’s a really good point and could explain why he chose UF.

He’s from Marietta. Gainesville is way closer to Marietta than BR is.

Neither is OSU. Last year was their best chance. Decimated on both sides come fall. Good thing y’all don’t play anyone. Oh and go tell your friends at eleven warriors that Eli is staying put but nice try.

Why do you assume he has bad parents? Because he transferred out of a school you cheer for? Or maybe something else
