SIAP. This is an update from Mike Farrell at rivals

quote:

OK here’s the latest I have on tight end Arik Gilbert. Rumor has it from a source that he will return to Baton Rouge and LSU the weekend of April 24 and perhaps re-enroll. However, another source close to the situation said they have no knowledge of this. I know Gilbert has expressed interest in returning to LSU and the natural fit would be to room with former high school teammate B.J. Ojulari who has been off to an excellent start for the Tigers. To my knowledge it’s either LSU or JUCO and his only path back to the field in 2021 is with the Tigers. Again, he has a long list of things he needs to accomplish before he sees the field again but once again this has never been about homesickness. Gilbert never wanted to leave LSU in the first place. There are many factors I can’t discuss here for privacy sake but right now I feel very good about him landing back at LSU by the time summer conditioning comes around.

Is he going to be pissy when we spread the ball around again?

Are there any NCAA rules that would prevent him from playing right away?

If the spring game is any indication, that won’t be an issue.

He needs to be academically eligible. Other than that, no.

Get that kid a tutor and a night out at Tigerland after a W and we'll be back on track.

You seem to be putting a bit too much stock into the spring game.
1) The team was split in half. So the talent at skill positions was also split in half.
2) We only had 1 RB available - TDP.
3) We ran a very vanilla offense and defense.

There was some good and some bad. But overall, the team looked much better than they did in the fall. We will have a much better season if that trend continues. The addition of Gilbert would definitely help, though.

I’d love to know the back story in terms of UF recruiting him while he was still a Tiger. I’ll bet you some very shady stuff went on which put this kid in a terrible situation.

I hope it works out for the young man regardless of where he ends up in terms of his life in general and his football career.

He needs to realize that we have receivers who will also be playing nfl. That he is not a receiver and to learn to block. In the meantime before going pro he should consider the god given blessing that he has received and modify his thought process in throwing away that talent.

I just want to know what happened to make him leave and commit to Florida even though he now apparently never wanted to leave LSU in the first place? Him committing to Florida and then learning he is academically ineligible and trying to come back makes it seem like he doesn’t actually want to be here he just might be back because it’s literally his only option.

Why would they actually want him back?

He walked away from the team. Don’t come at me with the whole “he’s just a kid/ homesick/ blah blah blah”. He tried going to other teams but couldn’t for some reason.

I read that part as a joke, at least I hope it was. If his “source” wasn’t joking then he’s lost all credibility, no way did anyone tell him who Gilbert would room with lol
