Atleast we won't see McCray on an island against Percy fricking Harvin this year.

As soon as I heard McCray would be manning up with Percy Harvin earlier that week of the game I knew we were done. What a terrible matchup, what were those Co-Dumbasses thinking

Ah, ask SFP. Like I said, I kinda look at the base D as a Nickel with Coleman at LB.

lil nicky wuldnt put up with that shite

Coleman is a linebacker who attempted to play safety unsuccessfully. He was the leading tackler on last year's team but did miss too many tackles for my taste because he wanted to go for a big hit. LBs have less of a chance for a big hit so hopefully he just gets to the ball carrier and makes the tackle.

Chavis declined specific comment on Coleman's status. He said his scheme has always flourished with a hybrid, a player who is a blend of linebacker and defensive back, at the outside linebacker spot. It is that sort of ability that enables Chavis' defenses to avoid nickel and other packages requiring wholesale substitutions on a particular down

Our base package is basically our nickel package,” Chavis said last week as spring practice opened at LSU. “We just moved that outside linebacker up and back, inside and outside. You look for a guy who’s got skills enough to do some or really all the things that we want to do in our base package. And you like to play with that guy because he’s going to get the reps. He’s going to get all the looks. You’re not working an extra package in practice. And to me, if you’re going to go nickel, why not go dime, where you’re going to get the match-ups all over? And you’re going to do some things to help yourself in the run game.”

SFP, you should be ashamed. Letting JJ27 do all the work?

Thanks for the nice links, sir. I agree with Chavis. Too many substitutions can create confusion.

I hope they "atleast" buy the system, if not it's screwed from the start. I tend to agree w/ Facts on this one.

the missing ingredient last year was FOCUS.

According to Les Miles. According to Ciron Black. According to Jacob Cutrera. Focus was missing.

Chavis' D means less substitutions. Less substitutions means more focus because when there's substitutions, the focus shifts to substitutions when it should be on the next down.

I like this. Especially with our CB depth vs. linebacker.

How is it an excuse? How are they excusing themselves from last season?

whatever. I think the actual players and coaches know more about what happened behind the scenes than Joe ranter.

But this is a discussion about what they are or aren't doing. A discussion. You don't have to be a doctor to spot a retard.

I think that's why Chavis has moved some guys around so we can match-up better without running guys in and out and giving away what you are doing.

Brooks will basically be a safety with corner cover skills. Coleman will be a OLB with safety skills and speed. If you look at it from a skills standpoint, our base D will have 3 CB's, 2 Safetys and 2 LB's that he can move around and matchup however he gameplans against the offense.

I read something where Chavis basically said when you sub in guys in certain situations the other team can figure out your tendencies and beat you. He thinks he can disguise the D better if we can keep the same guys in the game on 3rd down.
