Are we going to throw on first down at least 55% of the time?

We've been a "run first" team for so long it's just hard to believe that we may actually take that approach this year. With an ex-QB for an OC and without our normal high round draft choice at RB...dare I dream that it's possible this year?!

As long as they continue to get first downs and put the ball in the endzone, I don't really care how they do it.

Depends on how many false starts and holding calls we have 1st down.

If you go back and look at the completion percentages from the last two years we had QBs with near 60% completion rates. BUT! We threw the ball at or below 20 times a game. An offense runs around or above 60-70 plays. At maximum we threw the ball only 33% of the time within those 60-70 plays. With the all this years emphasis on spreading the ball around we SHOULD see close to 30 passes a game making the pass:run near 50%. So yes, the odds of passing on first down will increase, idk if it will 55% but it will certainly become more likely to happen than in years past.

TLDR: No, we will not throw on first down at least 55% of the time. At the most we will throw on first down 55% of the time.

Actually I rather run 55% of first downs, get shorter second downs and hit them with the play action.

If you think about first downs, you get a certain percentage that are always run downs, Inside there 5 or inside your 10-15. Clock run out situations or just big leads. The only time you get into must throw first downs are in situations where you are down within 4 minutes of a half, behind big, and on on great that 1st and 10 downs due to penalties. That alone should skew to 55% run.

That being said, I think that our team should strive to be a 55-60% passing team over the course of the season.

It would be nice to see us use the pass to open up the run sometimes instead of constantly using the run to attempt to open up the pass.

Yeah, we’re bringing the bubble screen back. Also known as the 2nd & 8 Preamble.
