There's probably a small number of fans that have lost some level of interest due to the various changes in recent years. But college football interest overall is higher than ever with expanded playoffs & extensive gambling options leading the way.

Will “always” support my Tigers, but I have definitely cooled on the sport as a whole.

I think my love of college football is different when LSU is winning, or at least competing. I still love college football, but it's been a painful stretch recently. I don't think NIL/portal has changed anything for me. Just win. NIL/portal is present in other sports, too, but I'm still all in on college baseball.

Yes. The fanbase will dwindle until some roster stability is returned to the game. Professional players get paid, but have to honor contracts and have highly regulated, restricted free agency rights. College football needs to adopt the same framework.

sure
but I can tell you in my cirlce, almost to a man, everyone is much less committed to it. For the first time in a LONG time, I missed multiple LSU games with something else going on...including the bowl game. That never happened in the past. I don't know a single person that is more passionate because of it, but know many who are less.

ehhh
maybe with casuals. Real fans, I disagree. People are mostly fed up with the lack of any rules or any semblance of control over it....it is completely out of control...and that's the way most dems want it......Cruz is submitting some bill, but I doubt it goes anywhere because you are not to touch the social programs for the dem base.

Another distribution of wealth tactic, IMO.
anyone who doesn't believe this is what is happening, is either wanting it to continue because they support the social program or they don't understand what it is and why it was created. You will get a lot of downvotes and so will I......but that'll tell you how many support the social program.
Anyone objective should see a link between the abolition of the old college sports regime and the prevailing political climate in the early 2020s. I dont think it was a coincidence that at the very moment society was being roiled by the "social justice" movement, we began to hear vociferous objections that the (predominately white) coaches and administrators were reaping millions, while the (predominately black) players were being left out. The two are obviously linked.
Unfortunately, the muckrakers forgot about the interests of the fans of every color, who are source of every penny flowing through the sport. No more fans, no more money.
Go ahead and pay the players their fair share, but make them abide by contracts and limit their unfettered mobility to protect the game that the fans adore.

I think it’s a conversation here because we busted hard this year, big spend and big letdown some folks can’t cope.
I hate the volatility but it’s another game to play well.
I don’t hate the boys getting dollars. But contracts with performance incentives do need to exist, loan and transfer fees as well. It’s the evolutionary next step and there is already a tried and true template for it.

Yes. I have gfs that would be super surprised. I would tell them early that Saturdays in the fall are mine, so don’t expect/plan anything. One of my sisters called me about my school’s schedule when she was planning her wedding.
I haven’t watched a full CFB game in years.

agreed...but they are chicken shite to take away this social program to redistribute wealth.....I mean the NCAA is waf....as is MSM...they will ride this out until it crashes (it is not sustainable imo) then they will try and implement rule changes.

“He’s just a kid”doesn’t compute anymore when I watch most college sports.
Sometimes I wonder the thought process these parents go through. Throwing ur kids to the wolves at some serious money like the Chinese selling off their children.

They are 100% driven by money. They don’t wanna play the game. Athletes in all sports love opting out. It’s sickening. I’d rather see the guys that wanna play.

Agree with this too. Some of them are so mercenary they appear to have no innate competitive spirit.

LSU will never be and would never have been as good as 2019 no matter the portal or nil. Youve already seen the best lsu football team you'll ever see in your entire life.
Only let baseball affect your feelings like a fricking adult, dumbass

I bet that the overlap between the “College football is dead because of the portal and NIL” crowd and the “don’t waste your money on a fancy college when Nichols is offering you a full ride and more to go there” crowd is like 90%

You can tell by the shite we post here. No passion. Just frustration and hate.

Blame politicians and those in charge of CFB. The players are adults who work in a lucrative entertainment business. They should be paid. The problem is that there has not been any collective bargaining. As such, there are no enforceable guidelines.
Pro leagues have collectively negotiated contracts that they honor. Players change teams but only when contract is complete/voided.
I want to watch talented players….that means they deserve to get paid. If you want to watch players play for free, then go watch middle school football where only 2-3 players on the field are actually talented.
