LaCouture could add about 15# in the offseason and probably a solid NG.

Key and Neal are absolutely going to wreck lives in this system next season.
And Godchaux. He is tailor-made for that defense. In fact, the attacking style is perfect for the kind of dlinemen that Louisiana traditionally produces. They are fast and quick but often a little under-sized.
Aranda relies on his defenders to read the offensive linemen off the snap, block down on the slanting guards, then play the gap behind the guard. That takes athleticism more than brute strength. This is perfect for Godchaux and Heron, less so for Lacouture and Gilmore.

Can LSU run this system with the lack of LBers on the roster? It will be especially dicey if Beckwith turns pro. I hope this hire opens the (LB) recruits eyes.....opportunity is there for the taking. Just sign here!
I'm with the rest of you.....slam dunk hire, but can he employ this system at LSU now?

3-4 one GAP? I'm scared. Shades of Lou Tepper, and the epic fail of the last two years of DiNardo.

Yea but a lot more pressure on the DBs to play disciplined. Luckily we have a lot of talent hopefully they improve from last year as there were some glaring holes

I hope we keep Beckwith...he could flourish in his scheme.

Not sure what to call this but will require great linebackers and a lot of teaching and discipline to work.

The only potential on the field positive a lot of us saw with Steele was a more aggressive defense. And we were more aggressive this season. However, as we quickly saw and was particularly apparent against the better teams we played, it was blind aggression. Aggression without the intelligence.
By all accounts, Arranda bring the scheme intelligence we need to play a more aggressive style of defense. We also saw that our personnel didn't for Steele's scheme as well, and that it took 9 games to get him to make the necessary adjustments. Again, Arranda has a history of adapting to his players' strengths. If our players were on the small side for Steele, they ought to be a better fit with this new 3-4 defense.

Not even remotely. That was the most passive read and react scheme I have ever seen. The D Line would literally stand up and wait for the offense to come to them, and we hardly ever blitzed.

I just think Godchaux could be an elite 3-4 DE. He's a natural fit right there IMO.
most definitely that would be most natural position here

Tepper's scheme involved that dumbass drop linebacker concept that none of our players could pick up.
This is far different.

I think we might see an O lineman get moved to NT in the spring.
Fricking Travonte Valentine...NT in this scheme would have been perfect for him.

Here's a better illustration of 1 gap vs 2 gap.

But that doesn't illustrate where the linebackers are going to go in the 2-gap, while it shows a massive blitz for the 1-gap.
What happens with the 1- gaps mismatches favoring the defense if you don't blitz?
