Great start! Hope he is capable of sliding to SS at some point so we can get another 'bat' on the field at 3b. Just makes the line-up, offensively, much more potent. He and Broussard might provide that spark we need to get rolling at the right time.

Broussard needs to get it going. He hasn’t looked good since his return.

Hopefully he's the spark we've been needing. Hard to believe he's been out so long and then came back and looked like he never missed a beat.

Side note: I didn't watch the entire game but did see Labas get himself out of a bases loaded no outs jam. Was a helluva thing to see.

I'd love to see Smith move back to SS, then have some sort of combination of Bain, Jordan, Slaughter on the corners.

If you have Jordan, Broussard, Smith, Bain, Cabrera, Watson, Duplantis, Feduccia, and the other Jordan there's really no reason for this team not to hit. There's 5 guys in that lineup that should be capable of hitting .300 lineup, and you'd hope the rest could fall in somewhere in the high .200's.

A really bad Lamar team at that, they hung with LSU for 6 innings

Nice to see him back though. If nothing else maybe it puts a sense of urgency in some of the other guys

Feduccia needs to sit. He's in a massive slump.

Smith will move to short then Slaughter will play third. Put Slaughter in the 8 hole let him see a lot of fastballs and hope he runs into one every so often. If we are going to have someone bat around 200 in sec play I’d rather the guy that might hit a homer every so often. I commend Hughes for doing what he did when that’s not what he expected coming into the season but once Smith can play short it’s time to move on. Hughes has done a good job playing short but his bat is just not ready for this level.

Agreed. Some type of lineup with Smith, Duplantis, Cabrera, Bain, Watson, Slaughter, Jordan (s), Feduccia (don't think we have another viable C option), and Broussard should be solid and put some pressure on opposing P's 1-9.
OM series should give us a good idea about what PM sees as that lineup, and how Hess, Hilliard, and Bush continue to pitch. We NEED a few BP arms to step up and contribute.

This has to happen for us to make a run.

Broussard will come around and Smith will probably cool off some. I have always been skeptical of Hughes but at least he's learning to bunt. he's okay defensively but not great (guess i'm spoiled at the SS position).

His batting average rose from .200 after his first at-bat to .333 last night.

To me this would be the best lineup by years end.

Smith SS
Duplantis RF
Cabrera LF
Bain 1B
Watson CF
Jordan/Webre/Coomes DH
Slaughter 3B
Feduccia C
Broussard 2B

Feduccia at the 8 hole where Mainieri could turn the lineup over to Broussard with speed at the 9 hole.

If Watson's going to jump to the draft I'd at least like to see him try and hit college pitching and help this team out. His plate discipline has been horrible since being moved to the 5 hole.
